I always knew that America being a wasteful, consumerist, excessive nation would pay off! :D

But on the serious side, when I read the article, I got the impression that while this new wonder can handle just about any kind of trash, that trash would still have to be separated into separate piles. You can't just throw everything in together. And separating your trash is gonna cost.
 
I got the impression you should be able to throw everything in together. The yields for various products will vary depending on what you put in, of course.

Assuming the process pays off and be refined, it would probably be cost effective to just build the refineries into existing infrastructure. The plant in the article is right next to a turkey slaughterhouse, for example. In the future you might see other plants built into sewage treatment centers or adjacent to your local garbage dump.

Maybe one day everyone will seperate their trash into organic and inorganic bins.
