And the best part is guess what he teaches: Ethics!

Background: A former Diablo Valley College professor was arrested Wednesday in connection with the use of a bike lock in the beating of three people during a rally for President Donald Trump last month, police said Thursday.

Eric Clanton remained in custody in lieu of $200,000 bail at Berkeley Jail on Thursday and is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Friday at Oakland’s Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse. He was arrested on three counts of suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon that isn’t a firearm and assault causing great bodily injury.

In a statement Thursday, police acknowledged that video of the incident, captured by onlookers and posted on social media, helped them identify Clanton as the suspect behind “several violent assaults” that happened April 15 during the demonstration at Civic Center Park on Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

What really happened is that 4chan crowd-sourced the identification and came up with the assailant's name (about a month before the arrest). The attacks were vicious and cowardly, and at least one--the one of the guy in the red shirt-definitely could have been fatal.

NSFW--language and violence.

(Attack comes near very beginning of clip. Note in particular that the reach advantage the ulock gives him means he can attack from behind other antifa members, and then quickly disappear.)

Note as well that antifa stands for anti-fascist.

Obviously I wouldn't condone violence against anyone including Trump supporters but the over reaction to, "he's bleeding bad, he's bleeding bad" is hard to take.

It's a scalp lac, they bleed, but that's not "really bad" as they keep going on. Could be he needs a stitch but that's about it.

They are calling 911 and think the guy needs an ambulance. What a bunch of idiots.

That said, it was wrong.

Shouldn't this be in the "Donald trump caused a wave of hate crimes" thread?

What a cowardly scumbag glad he was caught hope he gats a suitable sentence.

That's some pretty clever sleuthing. I can't make out much at all in the clip.

Yeah, there's been a lot of overreaction since Trump got elected.

Well we are talking about the same bunch of people who have been playing Capture the Flag with Shia LaBeouf.

I keep hearing Decker saying, "Zoom in....enhance quadrant 34 to 45...stop...enhance..."

The Shia LaBeouf thing was amazing though.

It's wrong to swing a club at someone's head. I'm reacting to that much, and not the bleeding.

I'm reaching to the threat and use of violence to suppress speech, which is a Nazi tactic.

And now I'm reacting to your despicable attempt to minimize the enormity of what happened.

You are confusing pacifist and ethics. It can be ethical in some cases to be violent or even murderous. I am not saying he was justified, just that it is not as ironic as you think it is, in fact i expect the prof most probably self justified the attack using ethic ;).

Of course he justified it that way in his alleged mind. But ethics is concerned with how people should act, and it is hard for me to imagine an ethical system where such behavior is considered exemplary.

Oh, sure, he can fancy that he's the modern version of the White Rose Society. The problem is that anybody can justify anything to prevent another Hitler, and of course everybody compares their political enemies to him at some point. Remember the Obama as Hitler posters (created by the LaRouche kooks)?

But haven't you heard? The speech of the victim of the Antifa guy was violent so he was justified in defending himself from such violence using violence.

Seriously, that's your takeaway from this? The guy was effectively hit in the head by a small hammer (the two straight ends of a ulock are about that size).

BTW, looking at it again, it appears that the victim was kneeling for some reason when he got hit. That makes it an even more cowardly attack than it appeared at first.

My takeaway is, the action was wrong, and the injuries were exaggerated.

What is your takeaway?

My takeaway is that I didn't get a good enough look at his injuries to determine how serious they were. He was obviously bleeding quite a bit--it is visible and of course several of the people around him are exclaiming about it. He did seem cogent and apparently never lost consciousness, and he did not feel that he needed to go to the hospital. Of course a lot of people who are seriously injured think they're okay, it's no big deal.

There is quite a bit of blood on the ground shown at about 2:32. I am not surprised that this might have alarmed bystanders. I don't think that even the woman with the flag tee shirt who asked for the "cling" was especially medically trained.

As I noted the professor has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Perhaps you could offer an expert opinion to his defense attorney to the contrary.
