Anti-semitism hits record high in UK

I guess someone is trying to deflect from trigger events which cause these fluctuations. They could easily check the trend lines and see when the biggest increases were. Easier to just blame the BBC though eh?

Speaking for myself, I'm not blaming the BBC for this abuse anymore than I blame CNN for spikes in abuse of Muslims after terrorist attacks or such. But, IIRC, there are Arab/Islamic civil rights groups who do blame MM for encouraging enmity by the way they report, resulting in motivation for more racist attacks. Are they just trying to deflect from the trigger events which cause those fluctuations?

And the irony is that the old left loved Israel when it first came into existence.

It is, isn't it? I'm not sure exactly when the transition happened. By the late 1970s, it was done. !967? 1972, with Kissinger?

I think the extension of settlements into the occupied territories after 1967 was a major factor. I remember Jewish friends pre-1967 who were members of a Zionist youth club here in Scotland, and who were undoubtedly socialists, who claimed the 1948 exodus of Palestinians was a kind of misunderstanding, which they deplored. They used to visit and work on Israeli kibbutzim frequently.

But when, after 1967, many participated in illegal settlements, even on annexed territory, they went beyond the pale of socialism. Since then the socialism has disappeared anyway; the stereotypical settler is no longer perceived as a "make the desert bloom" socialist, but a religious and ethnic exclusivist imperialist.

This development awakened concerns that had existed from the past, but had largely been ignored, about the character of Zionism.
In the autumn of 1967, David Hacohen, then the head of the committee for international and security relations in the Knesset, had described his meeting with Palestine in the 1920s in the following words: [As a student in London] I had to defend the fact that I did not permit Arabs in my union; that we admonished housewives not to buy from the Arabs; that we walked guards at the citrus plantations so that the Arab workers should not be allowed to work there; that we poured paraffin over Arab tomatoes; that we attacked Jewish housewives in the marketplace and broke the Arab eggs in their baskets; that we supported the Jewish National Fund that sent Joshua Hankin to Beirut to buy land from the absentee effendis and give the fellahin back home a kick in the behind; that it for us was permitted to buy tenfold dunums of land of an Arab, but prohibited to sell asingle Jewish dunum to an Arab [...] It was not easy.
See http://www.ainfos.ca/02/oct/ainfos00578.html

But now things have even reached the stage where Netanyahu can complain that his opponents are bussing non-Jewish voters to the polls, as if he was an Old Southern politician complaining that his opponents were encouraging non whites to exercise their right to vote.

So you can't be surprised at the "transition"; I simply don't believe you are. And you must, unless profoundly wanting in intelligence, be able to propose cogent hypotheses as to when and how it occurred.

According to the source in the OP it has little to do with that anyway.
Vivian Wineman, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, said: "The sharp increase in anti-Semitic incidents over the summer may have been occasioned by events in Gaza but much of the behaviour was pure anti-Semitism and had nothing to do with the Middle East.
How many of these antisemitic incidents do you think were perpetrated by disillusioned Socialists once, but no longer, supporters of Israel?

Because that the current Left Wing Dogma.
I think it is wrong to view the mess in Israel and Gaza through a USA left-right lens. Other than the far-right Christian End-Times nuts, there are people across the political spectrum who are all over the Israel/Palestinian map. It provides heat but little light when viewed that way.

93.77%.

True. My theory is there's a much stronger correlation with how much someone likes or doesn't like The Matrix.

That's not the point! It's tremendous fun calling "Liberals" anti-Semites and using Israel as a club to beat them with. "Light" is not the phenomenon desired by the Conservatives who indulge in this stuff.

It's not dishonest. Jews immigrated and bought land. Starting in the late 1800s.

So if enough Brits buy enough of New York, we can eventually deem it to be nomlonger part of America, and instead rename it Chiddingfeld-on-Sea?

Then after a big war yet another country owned it, perhaps one you live in.
If you think Britain "owned" Paelstine, that calls into question your grasp of the history in question.

Then after yet another big war the whole area was divided up into a bunch of different countries, Jews given the tiniest slice of all.
The maps say the split of Palestine was about 50/50. Saying the Jews got "tiniest slice of all" on an area basis is as intellectually dishonest as saying, "Palestinians got the tiniest slice of all," would be.

The cycle of each side doing something and blaming it on what the other side did previously.
Yes I agree in day to day disputes; but as I've stated, the Palestinians are the injured party here, taking the situation as a whole, and I have indicated why and how. There must be a withdrawal of settlements from Palestinian and Syrian occupied and annexed territory. The excuse of security does not hold water. If they are necessary, military occupations may be legal. This is arguable; but civilian settlement by ideologues who believe God has given them the land is simply not acceptable.

Until this has been dealt with to the satisfaction of the injured parties no solution is possible.

But as pointed out here, absolutely none of this is any excuse for insults or injuries to Jews in the UK, which must be dealt with as severely as the law allows.

The six day war. once the Jews looked like they would survive they became less sympathetic to the left.

I regard that as ridiculous and I think simply provocative nonsense. Can you comment on my explanation given in my post above?

All this stuff about Lefties supporting Jews because they want the Jews all to be gassed is lunacy. The Zionists looked after the six day war, as if they were going to usurp and occupy territory; and while you may like that, as long as it's the right people doing it, it's not really a socialist or leftist sort of thing to do.

Anyway the current Israeli government is wildly right wing, almost to the extent of a caricature.

I think this is one of the most idiotic things I have ever read on these forums. I include even the conspiracy theory forums. Of course leftists were not hoping for the extermination of the Jews and anyone who thinks they did is probably not worth listening to.

What cycle? The Palestinians could have peace at any time, they just have to stop attacking Israel.

Yes, that is what the Palestinians could do.

Now, what could Israel do ? Well, they could stop expanding on Palestinian turf, and accept the two-state solution.

This isn't a one-sided issue.

One of the most idiotic over readings I've seen on these forums.

All I'd said was:
Helpless victims = sympathetic
Strong fighters = unsympathetic

Nothing about "wanting genocide".
