Anti-Science Terrorism

paximperium,

I asked because it was on his website and I was curious the significance of it. And since you guys probably know this stuff, I figured it would be more prudent to ask you guys directly.

Earth liberation front. Standard fare for that group. They will destroy anything and threaten anyone they feel is helping to destroy the environment. They've destroyed car lots full of SUVs. They've burnt down houses that were in the process of being built. Im fairly certain someone almost lost their lives in that incident.
I wouldn't normally defend them, but ELF may not have been responsible for the "McMansions arson".
Letter writers to the Seattle press and websites like Treehugger.com and Grist say it is suspicious that the attack on the McMansions should take place in the middle of America's most serious downturn in the housing market in 30 years, with a recession looming and properties almost impossible to sell. People are deliberately setting fire to their own properties to escape mortgage misery, they say, and only one of the houses on the Street of Dreams is said to have been sold.

I just asked a simple question and everyone gets all touchy. I'm just trying to learn something...

No you weren't. You stated:
To make a topographic map? Of what? Why is it so important to be able to use ephrins and neural activity to be able to create a topographic map?

In a thread about terrorist actions against a scientist studying this, you were implying (with a strong indignant tone in your writing) that his study was meaningless(to you anyway) and that somehow the terrorist were justified in their actions.

That is the reason for the hostility against you. You may have meant otherwise but I suggest you be more cognizant of this the next time.

An example would be:
"Why should the US need to be in Saudi Arabia? Why do we have to protect the oil? For what?" a few days after 9/11.

That wasn't what I was trying to say at all... I was not attempting to trivialize what he was doing, and I certainly was not justifying the terrorists actions.

I was just wondering in the scientific sense, how the ability to create a topographic-map using ephrins and brain activity was a significant find (not to trivialize, just to understand how it was important).

And I was also wondering what they were making a topographical map of.

No problem. It was partially answered by the quote you provided:
"Feldheim's group is currently trying to understand both the mechanisms by which ephrins and neural activity act together to direct axon guidance in the visual system."

They are trying to map out the pathways of various neural functions and how this relates to ephrins and brain activity. It would be in essence one of the road maps that determines how certain brain functions actually work such as the vision, various brain damage or perhaps even mental disorders. This is what I believe it being looked at.

I'm very out of date in my neuroscience. I did basic stroke research over 8 years ago.
