Don't you think that the fact that he was unarmed is meaningful?

Also, I don't think anyone was judging the dead man by his race, rather they are judging the killer by her attitude toward his race, the implication being that if he wasn't black he wouldn't have been killed.

...which is a completely unsupported assumption.

Yes, I agree that his being unarmed is one of the most important aspects of the story. But his actions led to this confrontation, not simple officer bias/driving while black, etc. This was clearly not a "hands up, dont shoot" murder of a random citizen with a disabled vehicle as folks initially tried to suggest. Officer negligence? Highly possible.
Hate crime? Not seeing the evidence for that.

Indeed.

On top of that, anything previously unknown discovered only after the shooting during the PM can, by definition, not be a reason someone was shot.

I think it's pretty likely that the officer(s) did know he was on something.

Can you provide evidence for that belief?

The erratic actions of the suspect in the video.
The random place (middle of flowing traffic) where the stiill-functioning vehicle was inexplicably parked.
The statements the officer made to dispatch about the suspect's non-compliance.

Seems reasonable, thank you.

Looking at the Washington Post article, of the 990 people shot and killed by police officers in 2015, 948 (or more than 95%) were male.

Do you think the parsimonious explanation for that is sexism?

Yes. Numbers don't lie. They have internalized their man-hate and are singeling us out, hunting us down in the streets, gunning us down, detaing us in large camps and facilities for crimes society at large themselves are to blame for.

Disband the police, courts and prisons. That's the only viable solution. :boxedin:

Or not.

If the headline didn't initially read "Another Unarmed Black Man Shot" but instead said something like "PCP Addict wandering in traffic killed by police" which was the true cause and nature of the incident as we now know, maybe people wouldn't have been so quick to immediately jump to unjustified conclusions about police racism. Not picking on the OP, but the media in general ran with this to feed the racism frenzy because it draws viewers.

CBS radio went with 'stranded black-motorist shot by white police officer after his vehicle broke down' when they reported the medical examiner's findings.

Ahhh...the old PCP ploy. When all else fails, claim the guy was on PCP and had super-human strength.

PCP provides someone Super-Human Strength and makes them more dangerous? Baloney!

Ahhh… The old PCP ploy, again.

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ac9_1476519609

A man crashes his car into a liquor store (the car probably suffered a mechanical failure and crashed into the building that he just so happen to be going to to counsel at risk youth about the dangers of alcohol abuse. The media is waiting for confirmation from his family) while high on PCP. He abandons the vehicle and walks away from the scene of the accident until cops confront him.

It takes several officers and two shots of the Taser to get him off the top of a female officer who was knocked unconscious, suffered a concussion, two cracked bones, a neck injury and a bunch of missing hair.

Or "Baloney" as you would call it.

Body cam video here.

But you still haven't justified the shooting.

Try again.

Oh it will work with the jury. They don't like convicting cops even when it is clearly wrong to shoot. This will give them a pass.

And it shows how restrained the police were in the march on selma, they would have been justified shooting all those men blocking traffic illegally in the road ignoring their orders. That is enough to justify killing someone and they should have opened up on them.

And so people acting erratically because they are say having a hyperglycemic episode or other medical cause are also people who should be shot.

That will make things easier for EMT's when the police execute all emotionally disturbed persons instead of getting them to seek treatment.

It makes him a thug and therefor totally legal for the police to kill with no more justification needed...

Might I suggest a name change to "hyperboleturtle"?

Well, yes, according to these white supremacists. And, yet again, especially true when they shoot a black person.

Ethically, it's horrible, of course, but a few folks here have taken even worse positions, so...

Your strawmans.

Those are the truth. Trigger happy cops get covered for constantly then they go to new departments if they are too trigger happy for one and get covered for there. The prosecutors don't charge them because the other cops won't stand for it and even when they do they have a lousy conviction rate. Those are all simple facts.

Tulsa cop not guilty in fatal shooting of unarmed black man

http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/17/us/tulsa-police-shooting-trial/index.html

I have watched the Video and all I will say is if the man had done what he was told by the police he would be here today. I am sick of all this crap when some one is shot and killed and you find out that they ignored what the police were telling them. So I say if you ignore what the police tell you then be prepared to accept the consequences.

Immediate and unthinkingly bowing to authority doesn't really seem like the American way to me.
