Makes it clear the various reports were absolutely correct, confirming decades long rumours.

Many people knew of this abuse, I heard rumours of Smith’s preferences for boys back in the 1980s. I can remember rather bad taste comments saying that the Libs and Tories could never work together as Smith and Britton couldn’t agree on who got the kids.

Have we really learnt how to stop these abuse of authorities? I sadly don’t think we have, still too much partisanship and more concern about the "institution" rather than the victims.

Yeah, it's not so much a cabal made up of pedophiles all covering for each other as it is a bureaucracy that was willing to not care and look the other way when pedophiles who were rich and powerful enough wanted to scratch their itch.

Of course, when the public outrage gets too much, upper management sends a few cops into the back room where they rifle through dusty filing cabinets and end up arresting some retired pop star for touching a girl's knee in 1964. "See, we take this sort of thing very seriously!"

The tabloids carried the story, but then it was suddenly hushed up, as Savile threatened to sue, and Jersey police dropped the investigation all together.

Then there was a story in NOTW when Savile himself said he had been 'spoken to' by a policeman because an eight-year old girl regularly visited him, the gist being, 'what a dirty mind that policeman had against innocent moi'. That one went back decades.

If the police were regularly 'warning' Savile and people were regularly reporting his pervy habits, you can't say, 'we didn't know'.

You mean Haut de la Garenne, where the discover of any actual evidence has proved elusive, and hardly any actual charges were made to stick. Clearly a lot of children's homes at the time were horrible places, but few if any were not the paedo-enabling torture factories they are portrayed as. Savile is known to have visited it precisely once - i.e. no "regular" by any stretch.

The problem with Savile is that while some allegations against him may well be true, a lot of them have been investigated and thoroughly debunked. The majority of the reports by NHS hospitals certainly cast huge doubts on the veracity of accusations relating to them, and while some did have the conviction to come out and reject them entirely, a few fell back on the sop that they found the alleged witnesses/accusers - to coin a phrase - "credible and true." The kindest thing that can be suggested is that some accusers projected actual abuse they suffer at the hands of others onto Savile.

I had heard nothing about Saville until it all exploded, yes I thought he was a weirdo and a creep and I wouldn't have left my pet fish alone with him never mind a young girl but that was based on his to me innate creepiness.

Are we genuinely expected to spend five and a half hours watching a YouTube video? I decided to start watching in case I could get at least a summary in the first ten minutes or so, and then I saw the graphic that is displayed for the first three seconds of the video and decided even that would be a waste of time.

If you can find a video or website of reasonable length explaining this case that isn't made by Nazi-lite "elders of Zion" conspiracy loons, please post that instead and I will watch it.

Couple report paedophile with connections. They get targeted and their kids taken off them. A 3 second Google search would have been quicker than you typing that post, it would even have pointed you to summary videos and articles about this case, but maybe you couldn't 'genuinely have been expected' to do that either.
