Another cartoon causing offence

Has South Park ever depicted Mohammed?

No, but they have (on multiple occasions) represented Moses as a ominous, scary, spinning column of light a-la the MCP (the villain in Tron). Around a campfire at "Jew Camp," if I recall correctly. Dunno for sure, I gave up on cable years ago.

Anyway, the complete lack of Jewish mayhem that ensued is one reason I am seeking clarification from Mark on his assessment of the current situation.

Edited to add: Considering the producers' taste for contemporaneous outrage, however, I wouldn't be surprised if Mohammed makes an appearance very soon. I might even re-subscribe to cable just to see it.

I'll thank you to do so in private, Private.

And wash my hands afterward, suh? :)

Jocko
It doesn't look like one is forthcoming, unfortunately.
I did answer your question, Jocko...a couple of times. You may not have liked the answer, but I did answer it.

I did not ask what the various histories of islam or christianity were. No one has asked you that.

I asked, plainly, what kind of violence you expected from the provocation detailed in the OP. You have declined to answer that clear, simple question.

Your aversion to clarity is noted.

I think they did in the David Blain episode about Blaintology (twaaaa). That was the one with the Super Best Friends or whatever they called themselves, a bunch of modern day religious figures and Sea-Man (hehehe).

Form of. . . A beaver!

Australia's government owned multicultural broadcaster SBS has decided not to show this episode on Monday.

You're right, i've just scanned the episode and he's one of the superbest friends (made up of the various religions)

This must have been seen by hundreds of thousands of muslims both here and in the East but I don't remember any furore. He's depicted in a good light, a superhero, but I thought the point was that offence was made by simply depicting him.

Best keep this one quite!

Still waiting for an answer, Mark. Remember, it's not fair waiting until the imbroglio is old news before offering your assessment of its likelihood.

Do you think there will be violent outcry against this episode? Considering you have already declared that "all" religions "usually" handle offense with "violence," I merely ask you to apply your own premise to predict an outcome.

Not a tough question. So how about it, already?

I didn't expect there would be a violent outbreak over the Danish cartoons. I never expected Catholics to murder innocent people in Ireland; I never thought protestants would do the same. I didn't expect it when American Christians started murdering doctors. So, no, I don't expect violence from this. Which means absolutely nothing.

So you don't expect violence, and support that view with a slew of examples where violence did occur (nicely muddying the issue and spreading the blame, well played indeed, BTW)?

Sounds to me like you DO expect violence, and are simply afraid to say so. I'd say that rather means quite a lot, Mark. Wouldn't you?

You're in luck. You don't have to: you can watch an entire episode that features The Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) here. The episode apparently first aired on July 4, 2001 according to the Mohammed Image Archive.

Also in the episode above.

You ask me a question and then complain about the answer over and over. You sound like my ex-wife. I am sorry I didn't answer your question with the answer you wanted. If you want me to follow your script, perhaps you should send me a copy so I can learn my lines in advance.

Yeah, well, if this is the kind of "straight answer" you gave your ex, I'm not surprised things worked out the way they did. In fact, I'm shocked you even managed to get out "I do" at the wedding without mangling tenses, flinging innuendo and backpedaling to the rear of the apse.

Or did you? I'd love to see the video.

Oh, by the way...

The article states that the episode was to be shown on 2/22. If that held true, it looks like Mark has accurately predicted that there would be no violence in response to the offensive treatement of the Catholic faith.

Now, I wonder if it will occur to him that there may be a reason why he was wrong in all his other expectations, as listed above, and correct on this one?

Naw, it won't occur to him at all. Not while he can spend his time accusing everyone to the right of Lenin of being a chimp-worshipping Bush apologist.

If you had any idea what an ass you just made of yourself...no, scratch that; you would not understand even if it were posted in one syllable words.

You aren't even capable of telling the truth.

Anyone who worships a big, invisible being that lives in the sky / forest / cave / middle Earth or Tattooine...and that has never, ever proven itself to exist...
