Another apocalyptic prophecy

Recalculating the dates of a failed prophecy.
As TimCallahan points out, the possibilities are endless, indeed.
Still, how is it possible his followers don't twig onto the fact the man is failed prophet and stone him to death?

I think this has something to do the reason people don't pull out of lousy investment after having lost money, or the factthat people stay in Scientology even after they realize that being "clear" hasn't changed anything in their lives. It is very difficult to cgive up on something one has invested a great deal of either time, money or emotion. Giving it up is an admission of having wasted something.

And of having been wrong.

I've got this propsition for all of Vincent Xavier's followers: Give me your money to hold in trust for the next recalculation. If you're right, and you're raptured out of here, you won't need the money anyway. If you're wrong, I'll give all your money back to you - every penny of the principle. All I ask is that, for my trouble, I get to keep the interest.

A simple post dated cheque? Perhaps crossed so it can only be lodged at a branch in the soon-to-be-destroyed city.
