Today the occurance of sex between humans and animals, also called zoofilia, was a topic on the radioshow Front. The Swedish Association of Veterinaries has during the previous year noticed signals of an increasing activity in this area. The topic is occuring more often on internet chats and forums. There is even reports that the amount of pornographic images available on the Internet, involving animals, has increased since the possession of child pornography was made illegal in 1999.
Foreign research and single reports from Swedish veterinarians point out that sex between humans and animals often cause physical injury in the animal. Experience with similar stressful situations for animals show that most animals also suffer mentally from this.
Sex between humans and animals was de-criminalized in Sweden in 1944. Even so the Swedish Association of Veterinaries consider that this practice poses so high risks for physical and mental injury, that it should be considered illegal under animal protection laws. Unfortunately there are flaws in the current law, which should be improved so it is made clearer that sexual molestation of animals is illegal.
