And the boats keep coming

I have explained my thoughts around this before. I would not have been unhappy if they had tried Malaysia so yes, the Libs can wear some of the blame.

Really? Because your previous comments on the Malaysian solution seemed to indicate otherwise. Or by "they" do you mean the Liberals?

The greens have a policy that causes deaths yet you are silent on them yourself.

So in what way does a policy that is essentially "wanting to treat people like people" causing deaths?

Yep.

So in what way does a policy that is essentially "wanting to treat people like people" causing deaths?

A policy that would seek to "treat people like people" would not encourage them (tacitly or directly) to get on leaky boats and risk the lives of themselves and their children.

The greens have effectively had their policies in place since Rudd and Gillard dismantled the PS. 800 dead since. Congratulations on this oh so very humane policy.

And are you going to answer the rest of that sentence?

Do you even know what the Greens policies actually are?

I already have elsewhere. Just quickly. I do not like the Malaysian solution for a variety of reasons. I would be happy for anything to be tried in an attempt to stop people dying.

And by "they" I mean parliament on the whole.

Do you even know what the Greens policies actually are?

I believe so, do you?

Indonesia is "turning the boats back" it seems. Did Gillard and co have a hand in this? How come the strategic change from the Indonesians?

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/world/14372808/boat-in-distress-found-near-bali/

Indonesian authorities have found a boat carrying about 60 asylum seekers that had broken down and started taking on water while on its way to Australia.

The boat was found adrift in waters between Bali and Java on Thursday morning by the Indonesian search and rescue agency BASARNAS.

It is being towed to a port in Surabaya, in East Java.

THE record for the number of asylum seekers arriving by boat in Australian waters in one year has been broken.

Department of Immigration figures show 6,765 people have arrived by boat in this year, topping the last record set in 2010, when 6,555 arrived, the ABC reports.

A new record and we have five full months left.
How many more will die before this useless excuse for a PM actually does something?

So the PM is responsible for this record?

That's Alfie's theory. All the wars, political upheavals, economic hardships, famines and natural disasters occurring throughout the third world are Julia's fault.

She is also the ringleader of the entire world's people smuggling industry and provides all the boats and crews.

And she's triple-responsible for the boats that sink, even if they're over 1,300 kilometres from Australia and in the process of being rescued by Indonesia's Badan SAR Nasional.

Somehow.

I don't blame her for anything she does not earn.
Like the rest of us that inhabit the planet, she is responsible for her decisions as well as the consequences. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not really. Some have suggested above that I am blaming her for "all the wars, political upheavals, economic hardships, famines and natural disasters occurring throughout the third world", that she is "the ringleader of the entire world's people smuggling industry and provides all the boats and crews", and the like.

I am saying quite simply that she is responsible - in part - for some 800 deaths so far and she refuses to do anything about it.

Ask yourselves this, would you be quite so silent if Abbott were in charge?

This isn't directed at you Sidey, but Gillard has some extraordinary hypocrites who simply barrack, me thinks; the difference between right and wrong depends only on who they voted for. Pathetic and disgusting.

Damn right it doesn't apply to me. I am just pointing out your dodgy argument against Gillard.

It doesn't seem to apply to me either.

Since neither Tony Abbott or That Woman With The Voice™ are candidates in my electorate (McEwan) I don't have to worry about wasting my vote on either of them.

It's a shame that Fran Bailey is retiring, since that would have made my decision a whole heap easier, but as it is I'll be voting for Kinglake policeman Cameron Caine, who will contest the seat for the Liberals.

If this means that Tony Abbott ends up being Prime Minister, then so be it. If he's rubbish at the job then I'll trust the party to do the right thing and sack him as leader, just as Labor did with Kev, and we can move on from there.

You haven't done that yet (pointed out any dodginess). How is it dodgy? She dismantled the old policy, she won't move to implement a new one.

We have zero border protection and the people smugglers have an open market.

People are leaving Indonesia and expecting an escort. One last week was a joke: the boat was still in Indonesian waters when Australian authorities were contaced for a rescue. I heard the comparison that it would be like the NZ navy coming to just off Geelong to effect a rescue.

How is she not - in part - responsible for the situation?

Here's the key question - I would appreciate an honest answer (from anyone):

Do you clear her of any and all responsibility?

I am saying she is responsible - in part. And yes, I have explained at least some of my reasons.

But the question is, what should she do, and how much impact will her action have? also what about others, what if they do nothing will her actions still be noticable?

You have been quoting statistics for lost lives. Would not such a move save lives?

I am not aware of the context here. What reasons have been given for taking this action?
