...And Another Thing - posthumous HItch-Hiker's sequel

I never intended to read it.
One thing that annoys me about Sci Fi fans is the way they think that just the name of a franchise guarantees a good book regradless of the writer. Thus we have a endless number of bad, hack, novels that continue a series after the author who created it died.

And, more often than not, the later continuations by the author who did not die. Physically anyway.

And for pity's sake, would someone shoot Todd McCaffrey before he writes again!?!?!

I'm wondering if North Korea's flamethrower executions could be useful.....

I couldn't see how Eoin Colfer would have been suitable fo that.

Glad I didn't bother trying.

And many that started out bad, before getting worse.

Fair point, but I did choose ones tagged with the "shuriken of approval", which would increase the chances of a bad book... Especially if it proclaims "coupon inside".

Epic bump.

I knew of the book and read the reviews and kind of avoided it.

I found it for a few dollars at used book store.

I'm about halfway through, and it isn't total rubbish. Trust me. I have no idea what the hell is going on.

There are times where Colfer manages to channel Douglas. A very asleep Douglas.

Better play it safe and put this in spoilers.

The idea of the ruler of a planet (Hillman) interviewing gods to see who is worthy enough of being the god for the planet seems very Douglas to me. Especially the subtle swipes at religion. "Our last god was a very hands off kinda god."

But yes....Colfer tries or tried too hard.

The beginning...What if you type "The HG2G into the HG2G?" The answer wouldn't be what Colfer suggested. It would be more along the lines of, "You delusional hoopy frood. How could you not know what the best selling book in the history of everything is? Plus, it is in your hand you mattress" GUIDE NOTE: Blah blah blah...something about mattresses from a previous book I don't feel like looking up right now.

I found it at a dollar store. Arguably worth the money, if only as an object to be sad at.

Trillian falls for Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged because she needs to pair up with someone. And so on.
That was the point at which it stopped being merely a bad book and crossed over into bad fanfiction.

I would pick but any book at makes a credible attempt at finishing "The Salmon of Doubt".
If no one has done it by the time I turn 60, I will do it myself.
