Democratic Underground just implemented an new feature in its discussion boards yesterday: the Block User list. You can already ignore users and hide threads, but the Block User list is a new development. Any person you list on your Block User list is automatically prevented from responding directly either to your posts or in threads you start. The person can still read your posts and your threads, but cannot respond to them.

Guess the effect it's having in the September 11th forum. No, go on, guess.

i was expecting some "scientific method" to prove the towers shoudl have toppled using blocks

That seems rather counter-productive. How can anyone argue with anyone else?

Okay, for my second guess, how's this: the tinhatters block the reality-based posters so that they can operate in an echo chamber and make it appear that they have no opposition.
 
Long term, the CTs will ban all OCT responses to their posts and the OCTs will post new threads to respond to the CT posts.
 
This Block User thing is just so...rediculous.

I prefer the much more real, and genuine method:

Step #1: Insert index fingers in ears.
Step #2: Begin shouting "La, La, La...La, La, La...I cant hear you...."

I think it's perfectly Democratic. Unlike LC, where only a few priveleged people get to ban others for their ideas, now all the twoofers will be allowed to be their own fascist censors. Perfectly fair!

However, I will say that only one person has put me on their Block User list at the moment, and she's strictly a cheerleader-type.

An alternate forum feature is one that allows the forum administrators to mark a member as "invisible." Invisible members can read and post all they like, but nothing they ever post can be seen by anyone except themselves (and presumably the administrators).

hahha. I used that feature on a spammer/abuser once and he was all flustered till he realized why no one was replying or posting in the multiple threads he created.

its a way cool feature.
