I agree that the stupid philosophies should not be promoted. In addition digitalis is a good example of how useful a herb is. In it's herbal form digitalis (foxglove preparations) are incredibly dangerous due to wide variations in the concentration of cardiac glycosides within foxglove plants and a low therapeutic index for the drug ( amount to treat vs the amount to kill). In it's modern use digoxin is produced in carefully controlled concentrations and so problems related to variable bioavailabiltity and variable concentration of active ingredients is avoided.

Another good example is the opium poppy > opium > morphine.
