Do we know this to be true? Was the lawyer an official representative of the Kremlin? There seems to be doubt about this. Seems like the only thing that could get Trump out of hot water is if she were not, unless it is illegal to receive election help from a citizen of another country.

I have seen it asserted on BBCs website that she was an official government "something", but I see denials too.

Is this, or will it be, the main point of contention?

Would it not be part of standard CIA process to know who she was, and if they didn't know already to find out ASAP.

Now, now... I actually took the time to research the claim by checking out the file format specification. I may still be incorrect, but I did do additional research. Research which seems to indicate that the claims made about the files' timezone are still, at best, unproven.

Your first post was just spontaneous responding to an out of context quote by someone known for not being up to speed on a number of issues. If you or the guy who "showed his expertise" earlier care to really look into the analysis and come up with substantial critique, I suggest to take it to a new thread. As you had to learn, the author is reacting.

Close enough to convince me, sure, but I'm heavily biased against Trump. I could possibly be convinced by seeing it written on a bathroom wall. I think a very direct connection would be necessary to convince most Trump supporters. One step removed isn't good enough.

Most Trump supporters won't be "convinced" no matter how direct the connection. They don't care what the truth is. However, if cornered, they will simply express admiration for Trump's resourcefulness and willingness to do what needs to be done in order to win.

I'm reminded of the "ClimateGate" CRU hack. That was traced to Russians as well, and it's since become an article of faith in the AGW denial world that it wasn't a hack it was a leak. The same process can be seen here and now.
