Merged All things Trump + Russia

Out of the cast of characters in this story Comey is not the one who's made a blunder, I'm entirely confident of that.

Lol

Both sides wanted him fired! We haven't had a director as disasterous as him in my lifetime. Good try though!

You're going to have to explain why only a specific kind of election interference matters here when a US backed coup isn't relative.

Someone upthread claimed "the US interfered with a zillion of election processes abroad" and I asked for a single solid example of when the U.S. really did that. What's to explain?

EDIT: The first example provided was a coup some years after the election happened. Not exactly "election interference" imo...YMMV.

The one I could think of is Obama interfering with the election of Benjamin Netanyahu.

The president needs to fire Mueller. Comey says he leaked the memo to get a special prosecutor appointed, it just happened to be his good friend Mueller. He can't run an impartial investigation.

The President can't fire Mueller, at last check. By design, no less. Still, on a quick look, I see that Comey and Mueller's past relationship is quite the fodder for conservative websites to claim conspiracy and bias. Of course, so is that Comey and Mueller met to discuss what he was allowed to talk about during the hearing.

<snip>

And who was it that appointed Mueller?

Could it have been Rod Rosenstein, the Trump appointee with no FBI background chosen as one of the people assigned to write a justification for whitewash of the Comey dismissal?

Yeah, that's a guy who's going to go out of his way to pick out a Comey buddy to oversee the investigation. Clearly a Comey partisan.

Rosenstein simply made a mistake in helping to pick him?

You're surely not denying they are "besties"

Leaked is the wrong term. Released them is more like it.

Lol, I forgot, your narrative. But he is the one who asked someone else to leak them. Does that sound like he intended to "release them"?

Have you actually been following any of his testimony?

Other than the one that Clinton fired with bipartisan support for corruption?

For Obama era, I hear that Macedonian elections were another that were likely interfered with. If we go back a while, the CIA was apparently trying to mess with Chile's democratic elections like crazy for years before holding back from directly getting involved in the fighting part of a coup... and then helped the new government stabilize a bit.

You can't leak memos. There was no classified information involved. He did nothing wrong no matter what [snip] sycophants want to believe.

That's The fact. Accept it and move on.

I think your semantic argument is a waste of time. The US does indeed interfere in other countries all the time. You are provided examples and proclaim those don't count. Overthrowing democratically elected leaders doesn't count.

Having prepared and circulated them with precisely this kind of contingency in mind, and Comey is, lets not forget, a proven lawyer who's known exactly what he's been doing every step of the way.

And in the Trump corner, Kasowitz. I'm reminded of Trump's doctor, remember that guy?

Do you believe the United States interfered in zillions of "election processes abroad" or not?

Those days are gone, let them go. The point in hand is the Russians doing it to the US in a manner nobody's ever done it before, and the implications of that for the US and liberal democracy in general. Not because it's the Russians but because it can be done at all.

Then why didn't he leak the memo himself?

Yeah, I do. But since you don't define interference to include a US sponsored coup, why should I have a semantics debate with you?

Preacher, meet choir.

That issue was over faux ethics.

Fake news, social media echo chamber, hacking, we are in a whole new world.

I wonder what they think about the conversations Comey had with Trump would legally be considered classified. Would it b the part where Trump asked for personal loyalty, or when Trump asked for a stop to an investigation, or both?
It's laughable.
