Except, of course, among those who feel contempt for Kerry supporters, and believe the Bush side is the cool and hip one.

You don't have to look too hard to find the contempt directed against Springsteen lately.
Yes, but you conveniently forget that this fact does not take into account the filtering of events through my own bias.

Cooper was joking.

I have no doubt he's a Bush supporter. But it's his sense of humor to go overboard in his support. He's a funny guy.

I respect him for no other reason than he almost single-handedly restored the Hollywood Sign in the 80s.

That's a guy who gets my respect.

Remember the Beach Boys (well, the living ones) supported Bush Senior.

Anyone who could hate the Beach Boys or the Beatles music because of their politics deserves a punch in the nose.

Knowing a bit about Cooper I'm reasonably sure it was tounge in cheek but in any event it is no worse than voting for someone because a rockstar says you should.

I was a really big AC fan as a youngn'. About a year ago I got all nastalgic and downloaded a few of my favorite songs of his.

They sucked. They really, really sucked. The singing sucked. The music sucked. The mix sucked. I couldn't believe I actually liked that crap.

Then I realized I wasn't stoned.

Still, there's a reason you don't hear much Cooper on the Oldies stations.

Sorry, for the entertainment derailment...please continue the political thread.

When I was a kid there was certain tapes or records that I was not allowed to listen to in my house including Cheech & Chong, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Lenny Bruce and Alice Cooper and others. That they were anti establishment and perceived as subversive made them all the more exciting. Of course I listened to them all at friends homes. I think you are probably correct. It would certainly be in his character to poke a bit of fun.

Treason against R&R!? That's both rich and apt, coming from a superficial, no talent, self-proclaimed moron.

He's also an avid golfer.

Yeah, it was a lot harder to hide a ten inch vinyl disc than it is to hide a downloaded .mp3 file wasn't it?

What cracks me up about Alice's statement is that rock and roll bands should stay out of politics. In the late 60's & early 70's, that's practically all it was! Gimme an F...

Two words that still get me all misty eyed:
Garrard turntable. :D

I rented Penn & Teller's ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ and the entire family watched it. I let my kids watch South Park and lots of stuff that would curl my parents hair.

Long live Rock & Roll. The politics of the 60's gave it an edge. It was some great and inspiring music.

Run Through the Jungle - CCR
Fortunate Son - CCR
What's Goin On - Marvin Gaye
For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield
Eve of Destruction - Barry McGuire

To name just a few.

I heard Fortunate Son just the other day and it struck me how sad it was that it was completely relevant after all this time.

The greatest protest song of the 60's wasn't even r&r -- it's gotta be Compared to What by Les McCann and Eddie Harris. That was some stirring, kick-ass sh** man! IMHO of course.

(Right Blue Monk?!)

edit to add: I've had it. I want the jref one mil and I want it now. When I wrote this, Blue Monk had yet to post to this thread.

Right on!!!!

Swiss Movement.

“Possesion is the motivation that is hangin’ up the godd*mn nation
Looks like we always end up in a rut!”

“Have one doubt and they call it treason.”

I could go on.

I’m damn tempted to post the mp3 but I’m pretty sure that would violate to copyright rules so I won’t.

One of my favorite songs musically too though. I’d given anything to have been there to hear it live.

If anyone wants to hear it PM me and I'll give you a super-secret link because it really is a great tune even if you don't agree with the politics.

I do however, hehe.

Don't get me started. My views on golf are roughly on par with Carlin's.

I will make the following suggestion:

Being an avid golfer to the point that you appear in commercials for golf equipment disqualifies you from ever accusing someone else of "treason" against rock and roll.

i think you guys are twisting this a bit

alice is saying that these groups backing a presidential candidate are treasonous to rock and rolll..........not if they're "political"

when you were growing up would you think an artist was cool if they were onstage posing with politicians ?

No doubt it was in jest to some degree. But if his (or anyones's) point is that people vote one way because their favorite rock star does....it's just not that simple, and in fact smells like a strawmen the way he puts it.

Whats wrong with entertainers letting their views be known??? This is america! What makes news casters and columnists opinions any more valid.
