Alabama Republicans revels in their ignorance

Here's a political attack ad (paid for by "True Republicans PAC") from Alabama. Don't vote for Bradley Byrne (Republican running for Governor)! He believes in evolution! He also thinks part of the Bible are not literally true!

How does Byrne respond? By saying "That's not true! I am just as ignorant as my opponents!"

• I believe the Bible is the Word of God and that every single word of it is true. From the earliest parts of this campaign, a paraphrased and incomplete parsing of my words have been knowingly used to insinuate that I believe something different than that. My faith is at the center of my life and my belief in Jesus Christ as my personal savior and Lord guides my every action.

• As a Christian and as a public servant, I have never wavered in my belief that this world and everything in it is a masterpiece created by the hands of God. As a member of the Alabama Board of Education, the record clearly shows that I fought to ensure the teaching of creationism in our school text books. Those who attack me have distorted, twisted and misrepresented my comments and are spewing utter lies to the people of this state.

Alabama has no border with Mexico like Arizona, so it had to do something ignorant just to keep its citizens from fleeing the state.

I was hoping nobody would notice this. I'm so ashamed of my natal home. I just hope nobody bumps this thread.

Bump for one of the few dumber states than that in which I grew up (Oklahoma).

Although, if one looks carefully, one could find a thread started by Complexity concerning a 911-Prayer Group in Oklahoma :o

I was in Alabama last week, and I saw that ad on my hotel TV. I thought I had taken an airplane to get there. I think it must actually have been a time machine.

My other Alabama cultural experience occurred when I asked for a place to find good barbecue in the neighborhood, and they directed me to a local eatery. I got there to discover Tuesday was karaoke night. I'm not used to every third song being a "praise song" on karaoke night. Nothing wrong with that, and the singers were better than average for karaoke, but it was just something you don't find up here among the yankees.

I'm so glad I don't live in America. Libertarians and Creationists and Troofers, my three most despised groups, all congregate there in droves.

In our defense, we also have many rather excellent water theme parks.

The Libertarian party has almost zero support, creationism has been kicked out of school (repeatedly), and Troofers get no real attention.

I'm not sure why you are worried for us.

Worse yet are Americans. We live there. And we can prove we descended from you, whatever you are. You're as guilty as sin.
