What Really Happened Aboard Air France 447 - a harrowing tale.

I couldn't find any other thread re this. It makes for a very harrowing read:

Two years after the Airbus 330 plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, Air France 447's flight-data recorders finally turned up. The revelations from the pilot transcript paint a surprising picture of chaos in the cockpit, and a confusion between the pilots that led to the crash.

Today the Air France 447 transcripts yield information that may ensure that no airline pilot will ever again make the same mistakes. From now on, every airline pilot will no doubt think immediately of AF447 the instant a stall-warning alarm sounds at cruise altitude. Airlines around the world will change their training programs to enforce habits that might have saved the doomed airliner

this won't happen, reccomendations may be made, but more people will die before anyone is forced to obey them.
I've seen every episode of Mayday (Air Emergency in the US, Mayday in Ireland and France, and Air Crash Investigation in the UK and the rest of world) several times so count myself an internet expert (i.e. worthless) on airline safety procedure

Although "harrowing" is the correct word, there's been worse

did you see it, the bit where the 1st pilot calls on Jesus for assistance
I find that truly terrifying, especially when you consider, that as he said that, he was pulling back on the stick instead of pushing forwards which would gave saved the aircraft and all 49 people on it and one on the ground in a house they crashed into

I would suggest he was swearing rather than asking for help

I recall when flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson, the pilot was asked if he prayed, he said "Although a religious man, I figured one of the passengers had that covered"

As an A320 pilot told me today:
"They are not training these young people from the video-game generation to fly. They just teach 'em to push buttons"

They didn't teach them that well enough. If they had just referred to and followed the procedure given in their manual, they would not have had a problem.
