Air America. We hardly knew thee...

Gosh, with Air America gone there's no more Liberal Media. It's down to what, Amy Goodman? That's a Liberal Medium.

As someone who leans very heavily to left, can I just point out that Air America blew goats?

I mean...It wasn't interesting, or entertaining, it was boring as hell. Even Franken, who has the capability of being funny (see SNL), exibited all the comedic value of "boy, are Republicans stupid." Which gets really old after a while.

This doesn't mean they are going off the air. So hold the fireworks.

Some stuff I didn't know:

The company has experienced financial difficulties throughout its tenure, continuing to request infusions of capital and suffering the loss of several high-profile hosts. Five employees were laid off Tuesday without severance.

The radio has had several controversies in its brief tenure including a funding scandal involving Evan Cohen. Air America Radio was funneled $875,000 dollars from Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club, a not-for-profit, in the form of a “loan” to fund its operations. Due to of the less-than-ethical funding arrangement, Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club has been disbanded.

In another incident, The Randi Rhodes Show aired a skit that could have been interpreted as advocating the execution of the President George W. Bush. Several of the shows have been accused as fostering bigotry against Christians, Catholics in particular, and have been seen as lowering the dignity of political debate.

Heh. Advocating the execution of Bush. And here we have another topic a couple doors down about Dems get overheated about an event that had people shooting BBs at targets with Democratic faces on them.

I occasionally listen to Air America. They sure like the word "fascist" a lot. And "nazi."

When I see someone here calling Bush or somebody a "fascist" or "nazi" of some sort, it makes me think they must be loyal listeners of Air America.

I have tried a couple times to listen to Al Franken but something weird happens to my radio when I do. This incredibly loud and annoying whine begins to come from the speakers in my car and I can't hear him. It's like nails on a chalkboard. It feels like the bones in my body are vibrating, and not in a good way. The noise stops when I put it on another station, but the second I come back to Air America, it starts again.

There are quite a few paralells between the current administration and proper fascism. The problem is that most people don't know anything about what fascism means

I never really thought Franken was that funny. The best skit I remember him doing was when SNL had the Franken and Davis show and Franken had converted to Budhism, shaved his head and was telling jokes that only Budhists would get. That was a hilarious bit. I expected his radio show to be at least as funny as the bits he did for the news portion of SNL but he never went in that direction.

I lean heavily to the right and I really thought Jeanine Garafolo (sic?) was going to do well. She's great in every movie I've seen her in and her standup was great.

Blowing goats is just what happens when you take yourself too seriously.

Oh. That's his Stuart Smalley character you're hearing. People keep telling me it's really funny but I never make it all the way to the end for the punchline.

"Fascism" means whatever the user wants it to mean. In other words, it's so overused, it doesn't mean anything anymore.

So if you actualy mean the sort of government that mussilini and such instituted what term do you use?

I disagree. Rachel Maddow's morning news is quite interesting. She's not a ranter like Randi Rhoades, and is more of a newscaster (albeit with a liberal slant). She sometimes goes overboard with "doesn't the president sound goofy?" stuff, but other than that, it's pretty informative. She gives a lot of updates on election primaries, and still covers news from Iraq.

Of course, she is moving to pm news next week, so I can catch her on my way home.

From "stoptheaclu.com?" OK, I'm curious, so I click on the link.

This is the byline: "Beating them with their own Sickle and Hammer!"

:dl:

Oh, man...They actually say things like "The ACLU supports child porn distribution and child molesters like NAMBLA."

That site's hilarious, Luke. Thanks for the link.

Can you be more specific? "Air America" is not a monolithic "they." There are many different hosts on there, with lots of different perspectives.

So you think Bush is an Air America listener?

"Islamofascists" anyone?
