Penultimate Amazing
I listen to NPR's The World daily on the way home from work. Yesterday, they had a segment on a situation I'd not heard of before.
There is an Islamic sect called the Ahmadi. They are in all ways Muslim except for one, they don't think Mohammed was the last prophet. They think this guy Ahmadi was, and there may yet be more....
This bit of heresy is sufficient to get the entire sect, over one million of 'em, condemned by the state of Pakistan as being "fit to be killed" and to be denied the right to pray in public, call themselves Muslims, and so forth.
This has been going on for almost 100 years.
Recently, the Taliban decided to take the 'fit to be killed" thing literally, and staged a large scale assault on two mosques using assault weapons, grenades, and suicide vests.
95 killed, unknown how many wounded.
By most reports, Pakistani police stood by and watched, or engaged in sporadic and ineffective exchanges of gunfire with the Taliban guys.
I suppose this should not be surprising to any student of history... Christians after all spent 150 years or more in bloody Catholic/Protestant wars.... Some of which are still smouldering.
