AGW: Caribou Barbie is Tweeting

Now be fair, I was serious.

"Caribou Barbie" has a nice connotation, doesn't it? Barbie isn't a negative thing and everybody likes Caribou.

The alternatives;

  • Mooselini
  • Godzilla from Wasilla
  • Bible Spice
  • Pig in Lipstick
  • Pontius Palin
  • The disasta' from Alaska
  • MILFy

Are ALL much less nice. Don't you think?

When you said it was the nicest thing ever said about her, I took it to mean it was the least mean of the things said about her. That I agreed with. But I disagree that it's actually nice.

The act of calling her Barbie is a complete trivialization of her and her accomplishments. It's exactly the kind of sexist, objectification of a woman that the left usually screams about. Surely you can see that?

The line completely reduces and diminishes her.

I'm reminded of movies or shows where a sexist villain has female supporters who, when asking what they can do, are told "Just stand there a look beautiful". Then she is seen fuming over it. This is always done in order to demonstrate that the man was a sexist tool who only sees women as objects and unworthy of being in his circle of advisors, or being useful for any other reason than to look lovely for him.

Seriously, how can you not see this? How many times do professional woman say things like "Don't call me <X>" where X is like baby, darling, sweetheart, etc. They want to be seen as equal. They want to be seen as just as worthy as any man to have good ideas, accomplish many things, and be successful. They hate being reduced to simply being pretty things to look at.

If this were being said or done to any female left winger, there'd be howls of complaint. Absolutely screeching. Loaded with many comments about how it shows that the right is absolutely pathological with regards to sexism and they are just a bunch of troglodytes. But apparently, if the victim is someone on the right we disagree with. Hey.. it's something nice then. She'd probably appreciate it. Right?

I'm not saying she's worthy of yours or anyones respect. You are free to dislike her and what she believes. But don't diminish her in a sexual manner. That shouldn't even be in the mindset of someone who is truly a strong believer in liberal ideals. It's incredibly offensive and sexist.

ETA: If she actually has embraced this nickname, then I will have to retract my defense of her, and would be just as likely to call her a flaming moron for embracing something that so trivializes her, as a woman.

Regarding the spelling "errors," Twitter limits a tweet to 140 characters; it's not uncommon to shorten words in order to fit them in. Some clients (like tweetdeck) actually have functions that will do it automatically.

In other words...The only real "mistake" is the eon/ion thing, and it's really not a big deal IMO.

Why do all the Liberals get their panties in a bunch about Sara Palin? I seriously see her as nothing more than a sideshow.
An extremely hilarious sideshow. Palin is sort of the Homer Simpson of politics: a hapless dunderhead who comically blunders through situations, sometimes winning, sometimes not.

I will give her one thing, she scares the crap of you and that's good for a laugh.
Actually, that is good for a laugh. What on Earth is there to be scared of Palin? I think it would be absolutely a riot if she ran in 2012 and made it onto the Republican ticket again.

Plus, it causes her supporters to come up with defenses like this:
You never will understand. Explained step by step, inch by inch, issue by issue, you won't get it. You're a liberal. Your mind doesn't work like that.
You will never get it. What is seen as common sense, you think is insane. All this works the other way around too.

In the Valley of the Blind, the one eyed man is King. Nobody here seems to have 1 eye. With the exception of me of course.:)

:dl:

The defensive responses in this thread are quite illuminating.

You would be better represented by someone more articulate. Admit it. I don't understand why you aren't looking for that someone.

Pointing out that the stupidity of the response to Palin from the liberals on this forum and elsewhere does not mean that we think she is a good representative.

Sarah and Dan Quayle would be a dream team.

You don't hear much about Quayle these days.
I may have to google him.

Quote:
"Arrogant&Naive2say man overpwers nature," Palin tweeted.

"Earth saw clmate chnge4 ions;will cont 2 c chnges.R duty2responsbly devlop resorces4humankind/not pollute&destroy;but cant alter naturl chng," the former Republican vice presidential nominee wrote.

Wow. That is some real illiteracy there.

I never made that inference. Her popularity in the polls among you lot is what leads me to make that conclusion. Once made, however, this allows me to understand the defensive responses here quite well. It's fascinating.

There are other politicians, you know. Even hard-right, not unattractive women who would be viable candidates for President. Why this one? Why stick with her, when she makes such a fool of herself time and again?

Human nature is amazing.

Because Bush showed them that brains is greatly overrated?

Now it's your turn to climb on Whip's ass for thinking a simple nickname is "incredibly" offensive. GO!

WTF? That makes no sense.

I never made that inference. Her popularity in the polls among you lot is what leads me to make that conclusion.

She is not my lot. Your inference is faulty.

Once made, however, this allows me to understand the defensive responses here quite well. It's fascinating.

The problem is that you are wrong. Being annoyed by the way that liberals foam at the mouth every time she is mentioned is not the same thing as endorsing her style or views.

You really are on the wrong track.

Because Bush showed them that brains is greatly overrated?

Its dumb comments like the above that I am talking about R.Mackey.

Taking this a bit too personally, aren't you?

A very large number of people feel she is a good representative of their political beliefs. Pick up a newspaper. If you aren't among them, good for you.

Never said it was. That's not what interests me. What interests me are, instead, those seeking to make excuses for her conduct. There are many in this thread, and it does indeed speak to an endorsement of her views.

For the record, I am not a "liberal." You might want to rethink your own inferences, wherever they actually come from.

Pointing out that you are wrong about me is not taking it too personally.

A very large number of people feel she is a good representative of their political beliefs. Pick up a newspaper. If you aren't among them, good for you.

So? I am aware of that. I am pointing out that you don't have to be one of her fans to notice the over the top reactions by some of her liberal critics.

No it doesn't. Read Cleon's post in this thread. Cleon is about as far away from endorsing her as you can get and yet he made an 'excuse' 'for her conduct'.

For the record, I am not a "liberal." You might want to rethink your own inferences, wherever they actually come from.

OK. It was the fact you said 'you lot' which made me think you were talking about the right wingers on this forum.

Pointing out that you are wrong about me is not taking it too personally.

Friend, I don't have any idea who you are, apart from your replies here. And those are a bit puzzling.

So? I am aware of that. I am pointing out that you don't have to be one of her fans to notice the over the top reactions by some of her liberal critics.

I don't care about some of her liberal critics. The subject of my thread is her borderline incoherent Twittering from a summit on climate change. Complaining about others "foaming at the mouth" is a diversion, and you're participating in it, why I can't imagine...

No it doesn't. Read Cleon's post in this thread. Cleon is about as far away from endorsing her as you can get and yet he made an 'excuse' 'for her conduct'.

Anecdotal. I'm not picking on you or Cleon, by the way. He's certainly entitled to his opinion, whatever his political bent.

OK. It was the fact you said 'you lot' which made me think you were talking about the right wingers on this forum.

I am more concerned with Palin's defenders. That group and "right wingers" are overlapping, albeit not identical.

In other words, it isn't very politically correct.

I join Whiplash in his push for everyone to be more PC around here. We just shouldn't be allowed to say stuff people might find offensive.
