agnosticism confuses me

Most atheists will tell you that the "a" means "absence of", "without", "no", "lack of" etc, and that they refer to themselves as atheists because they don't believe in God/gods.

As I said in my first post in this thread: "agnostics and atheists are like two peas in a pod arguing over semantics."

Yes, but feel free to correct me if I misunderstood you. As far as I could tell, you hinted that atheists "disbelieve in the vague possibility that a god of some sort might possibly exist". By that I assume you mean that atheists believe that gods can't exist, which would be a quite false statement. What I was saying was that your own words "I don't believe in god" is the very definition of atheism.
