• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Adobe Flash plug-in issue

The player, or the plugin?
This is what I have. My machine never crashes or freezes. Adobe updates happen about once a month or so. The cpu core never maxes out, whatever that means.

It's just nonstop bliss. Windows 7 with Internet Explorer. Blue screen of what? What are people doing to break this sweet thing?

I have the problem in Vista that the update for flash does not work. The "exe" file never executes, apparently because of a certificate problem that is more trouble than it's worth to fix.

I found a solution, by going directly to the Macromedia site, and doing the update from there. It works every time. I can't remember now where I got the link, and it's a terribly complex linked linked link, but here it is, worth a try.

of course this does not stop flash from freezing the computer and crashing constantly, nor does it stop unresponsive scripts. On this laptop with Vista I always have a minimized copy of Windows Task Manager open, so I can kill Flash when need be. Unfortunately that doesn't work as well in some other systems where the freezup prevents the mouse from working. Flash is a mess.

During the last update, Adobe changed the procedure, again, in a way that makes me wary:

In the past, when going to the "version check" page linked above, and clicking update, it would download the installer, and the web page would inform me to shut down the browser(s) and run the installer.

During the last update, it would start downloading the installer, but at the same time would launch the "update manager" app (presumably a local app part of the still installed out-of-date version). That's actually behavior more akin of malware...
