The internet is for porn

So I've heard.

Discussion boards/forums are for nitpicking, so I have license to nitpick. ;)

Axioms for fifty, Alex. ;)
Then I get to nitpick (again) that nobody on Jeopardy ever said "I'll take <category> for fifty, Alex."

(FWIW: the eye being poked wasn't yours, it was they eye of he whom you addressed. )
I'll make it a true Daily Double on "Blindingly (nyuk nyuk) Obvious", Alex.

They are trying to get something that will pass. I'm guessing they don't want to just beat their head against wall. It's called "compromise", and it is valuable in government sometimes.

A math lesson for you: Not with a one-vote majority in the Senate, they can't. It takes a two-thirds majority. (Okay, it's a civics lesson for you too.)

We could give each other civic lessons all day long. To no avail. The point is, if the Dems were serious about ending the war, they would vote not to finance it. No money and the troops come home. Done deal. Why didn’t they do this? No backbone? Political reality? There was no compromise, the Pres won!!

Um... they did. It was vetoed. I thought you noticed. It was in all the papers.

No money and the troops come home. Done deal.
No, that is incorrect. The president could still order them to stay. Chief executive and all. They would just be there without lots of important stuff. Contrary to what you might think, the Dems are not agents of Satan who are eager for soldiers to die just so that they can score points against Bush.

The President did win this round. He lost the previous one (the 2006 elections). It is quite obvious to even the casual observer that the Republicans have lost much in the last couple of years, yet things move slowly in a democracy. It will take some time before the troops can be brough home, as well it should. I don't think any of the Dems have advocated complete and immediate withdrawal. Even the "deadlines" were for the beginning of troop withdrawals. Most of them actually understand political reality. Not all people do. Obviously.

OK, I'll take a small victory lap here based on my before the end of the year vote.

More credit goes to the by the end of August folks who picked a more restricted option and were right. So my congratulations to the five of you and a somewhat more restrained congratulation to my fellow poll takers who picked before the end of the year with me.

I just voted he won't resign.
This is the first time I've seen the poll and, heck, he's not going to do it twice.

So surely I'm right!
:p

The "no confidence" vote is coming up and though Bush says he is sticking with Gonzales as Attorney general, my money is on him resigning because "he doesn't want to be a distraction" or some such noble reason. But when will it happen? Just after the vote? In a week? Never? Poll says....
Okay, I was off on the timing, but for the excuse? Man, can I call 'em or what?

Houston Chronicle said:
In a telephone call to the president at his ranch in Crawford, Gonzales on Friday continued to insist that he had done nothing wrong but decided to resign because the controversies on Capitol Hill had become a distraction to his Justice Department, White House counselor Ed Gillespie said.

This appears to be a case of machoectomy, aka the "my ***** hurts" excuse.

Hey, Al, machismo absence is noted. Your next shopping trip is for "a pair" and a sack to hold them.
