Achau Nguyen Challenges! (again)

In my part of the world there are many people who are very sensitive.
By that I mean they can pick up the unseen.
Usually this is not on demand, it happens when conditions are ideal and normally when they least expect it.
Hmm, the word randomly seems to be appropriate here.

I can correctly predict the results of a coin toss... about half the time... and not on demand... and normally when I least expect it.

The charade, Gzuz, is where JREF does their "challenge" test with some poor dude, who is playing without the jack of spades, gets a negative result, and says "hey world another psychic bites the dust".

It allows them push their "challenge" as some sort of persudo science, which is crap.
...

You have said so before, yet your assertion seems to have little foundation on evidence or reality.

Make a so-called paranormal claim, have your proper application accepted, do what you claim you can do and get One Million USD. It's that simple.

Buzz, please stop hi-jacking this thread.

Use your own thread in the General Skepticism-forum, if you want to bitch about The JREF.

The last time that I looked, Heinrick, this was the Achau Nguyen thread in the MDC topics.
So I think it probably is the best place to discuss him and the "test".

And having spent most of the last 20 years studying "paranormal" events and the people involved in them, I have a pretty good nose for hogwash.

It was what you call a "stunt" by him and the JREF.

On the other hand I believe Carina Landin had the hallmarks of being the "real Mckoy". What she proposed was well within the possibilities of someone with extremely high sensitivty. The fact that she didn't suceed in her "challenge" would be more due to nature of the test and the associated stress.

So chillout dude, if it gets to much for you, go and play with a reindeer or something.

Do you have any evidence of any of your claims?

20 years???? You should have a good nose for hogwash, spending that much time in it. You still don't get it?

TA's our new, resident metrosexual, buzz. Man about town. Urbane. Sensitive as flypaper. Doesn't like his wine out of a box. And so on.....

Deal with it. :)

Isn,t it just like The Athiest to be so out of touch..........darlings.
Doesn't he know that metrosexual is like, " SO " yesterday.
The really "fab" guy around town is now being an absolute "cad".
This guy doesn't bring flowers and wine when he comes to dinner.
He is like "totally Wombat" in that he just eats roots, shoots and leaves.

Oh my, where to begin ...

First of all, "Heinrick"?! WTF? Are you trying to insult me by calling me by a German name (and thereby a fascist for "daring" to interrupt your off-topic-ness)? By the way, that would be "Heinrich". Yeah, not so much with you and the spelling, I know. Sucks to be you.

Second, reindeers aren't native to Denmark. That would be Norway or Sweden. So that's a second attempt at an insult falling flat. Or should I say "flaccid"?

And the last 20 years of your life could have been better spent learning the word "off-topic".

As should mine ...

Anyway, that Achau, huh? :p

I hope he comes back for a re-test. That would be cool, even though I don't think he has any powers.

The test results are the most damming evidence, CFLassen.

Carina did exceptionally well in the pre 1900 diaries. Most people who claim to be able to detect things in relation to previous owners of objects, have to actually handle the object.

From my own personal love of old books, I know that some of them have a particularly strong presence. So diaries that spent many years in close contact with a person would be the perfect object for an experiment.

So I believe she knew what she was on about.

As for Achau: The feat of telepathic communication is usually only present in people with very close connection, such as identical twins who have spent most of their lives together. And then this usually only occurs when something major, such as the death of one, occurs.

So for him to jump of a jet plane, complete with jet lag and altitude change dissorientation, and them go to alien envionment in the middle of a city with many strangers around, drink a stong stimulant, and do that type of feat with a " friend". No way!

If he had succeeded in one word I would have considered the test a success.

Maybe he could, if he had the ability, and he had spent the previous month in a Tibetan monastry focusing, and the person picking up the thought was as skilled as he was. Maybe!

No, he was just a patsy to allow Randi to keep shoving his "challenge" at the evolving world, so that he can keep some of the spotlight on his archaic ideas.

These are simply more unsubstantiated claims, buzz lightyear. You still have not presented evidence for your claim that the JREF Challenge is a charade.

Consider focusing on yourself and not on what others might think. Also, consider focusing on presenting evidence for your claims.

According to the records, Achau Nguyen's preliminary test was by the book. Do you intend to present different evidence, buzz lightyear?

Hey Gzuz, good old chran just gave me a serve for getting of topic, now you want me to chat about myself.
I could oblige, but this is the wrong place. And beside I presented my "evidence" and was politely and not so politely told where to get off.

And I dont give a damm whoes book Achau's test was carried out by, if it is to be considered science, it is repeated tests under varying conditions.

Not just a few good old boys, kicked back, having a bit of fun on Sunday arvo.
That, my friend, is a "CHARADE"......................capisce !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Science and Achau

...
And I dont[SIC] give a damm[SIC] whoes[SIC] book Achau's test was carried out by,[SIC] if[SIC] it is to be considered science, it {/is/ should undergo} repeated tests under varying conditions. ...
Allow me to ignore otherwise the rudimentary spelling and grammar errors, and point you've erred in your consideration of science. Science requires that a hypothesis that has been successfully tested at least once be repeated successfully by others and under varying conditions before the hypothesis is accepted by Science as a theory. A test that does not support the hypothesis is expected, and Science is silent as to whether further testing is warranted. Since Achau failed the test to which he agreed under the conditions under which he desired, all we can say is that we have no evidence to believe his hypothesis. No one here is saying that the first test showed anything.

May I urge you to be less critical and more proactive? Since you have 20 years of experience in the field, I suggest that you assist others in designing and executing rigorous tests to validate your hypotheses.

By way of examples, consider your concern about jet lag. (I admit that I'm baffled, as I thought jet lag affected those flying to the west across one or more timezone divisions.) You should offer your expertise to Achau that he shouldn't conduct the test on the same day (or week) that he travels. You also seem concerned that drinking an high-energy drink was detrimental. While Achau stated that he found that he performed better after such drinking, perhaps your years of expertise would assist him.

You probably misunderstood me. It is not about you or your "evidence".

This is a thread about Achau Nguyen, hence I asked you if you intended to present evidence, buzz lightyear, that his preliminary test was not by the mutually agreed upon book/protocol. Can you?

So I believe she knew what she was on about.

She claimed she could get 80% correct. Even looking at only the pre-1900 ones she only got 60%. Looking at all of them, which she did not complain about until after the test, she did worse. She could not do what she claimed. She failed.

That is so beautiful, ..............I think I am going to cry.

On second thoughts, I think I will stick to my motto:
