Yeah, I know. Sorry if my reply came off as if I were chiding you! It's just sad how few people know of the great strides cosmology has made in the last 15 years.Just to clarify, I am not denying the evidence.
What's unappealing about both ideas? We should consider them quite seperately - they are independent ideas although related to the same problem. I wouldn't say that they "should not" exist - there's no evidence to back up that statement. As always, what we would like to exist and not like to exist has no bearing on what actually does exist!I unconditionally believe the evidence and I also believe that dark matter and energy are the best explanation so far. My problem is that these are labels for two things that we don't understand, and that "should not" exist, given our current understanding of physics.
Perhaps you can explain why you don't find the current model satisfactory. I think it's an extremely beautiful model, supported by a wealth of experimental data. Just because we don't know all the details yet doesn't make it any less satisfactory.I am just hoping for a more satisfactory explanation for the evidence. Maybe we will even use the terms "dark matter" and "dark energy" for historical reasons. But I will be really glad if a whole new field of physics is opened while searching for this explanation.
