Abortion scandal in Spain

Dont worry, theres religious nuts everywhere. Theres that crazy PC religion in Europe, Muslims in the middle east and south asia, catholics crawling out of every other third world hole. American baptists are just one face of a need to believe in total BS that is present in equal parts in every corner of the globe.
Uh...?

I have no idea what question you think you are responding to. Or how your suggestion that there are religious fundies in other places than the US would somehow comfort me. Sorry, could you expand?

What was the journalist's opinion on this matter?

What an odd question.

Why do you expect an opinion from a journalist reporting a news event? Is it really inconceivable to you that a journalist can merely report, without automatically becoming a pundit, an integrated part of the story?

That has to be the most deplorable declaration of defeat I have ever heard of, when it comes to freedom of speech, and freedom of the press. You don't expect the press to be free, you expect the press to be biased, to be partisan.

I pity you, and the country you live in.

How on Earth can you expect other countries to follow your example, if you are that despondent of your own country?

Poor reading comprehension.

He wasn't asking about a judgment regarding the procedure -- he was asking if the reporter had an opinion regarding how the clinic managed to perform so many procedures that were ostensibly illegal.

If your knee jerked any harder any time a US/Speech issue came up, we could launch the space shuttle into orbit from the force geenrated.

Thanks for the pity, though -- you can put it over there, in the corner, next to the needless condescension we've been saving up.

Wow, can you also do this on a horse, a high one preferebly?

No, he was expecting the journalist not just to have an opinion, but also to present it, as an integral part of the story.

Save your pretentious outrage for when it is appropriate. You don't need to express your consternation, just because you see an opportunity.

Personally, I don't think that is the bigger question. The bigger question is how this procedure, clearly against Spanish law, could exist for years in a large, well-staffed clinic in Spain.

You're right. That is the first element of this story that should be addressed.

:wackylaugh:

Did you have a bad day, CFL?

I'm sorry, you confused me for someone who speaks crazy. Translate that into English please.

Claus, go back and substitue "speculation" where the word "opinion" appears, and you might have a better understanding.

This is so typical of CFL's tactics. He comes into a thread, launches into a sanctimonious tirade about how could you say what you did, how can you think what you do (based on his interpretation of what you supposedly said), and his conclusions about you based on all of that. I foresee a back-and-forth of "That's not what I was saying" and "That is what you were saying" occupying the next page or two and doing nothing to advance the discussion.

ETA: Nothing against you, Grammatron. My issue is with unnecessary, rude, and disruptive tactics that offer nothing constructive to otherwise civil threads.

Any mention of this in the US press? (Sorry, I can't seem to find a link in English).

I haven't heard anything in the major press. I have no idea if the fundamentalist news grapevine has reported on it. It's possible. The only large news organization I know of in the US Christian media is Pat Robertson's, and I don't listen to that. And about the only time anything Pat Robertson reports makes it into the major media is when he says something outrageous.

ETA: He would have to say something like, "Spain is going to get hit by a meteor for allowing late term abortions." :)

He does, this is worse than usual though.

However, I am not sure how much of this discussion can be had as I can't read the original source. There isn't even a link to it.

Found something in English

Ah.

Danish women travel to a private clinic in Spain to undergo abortions way past the Nordic country's legal abortion limit.

Public broadcaster DR's Magasinet Sondag screened the documentary Sunday where women were offered to undergo abortions up to week 32, or eight months into term.

The head of the private CBM clinic in Barcelona, Carlos Morin, said on the documentary that women from Germany, Britian and Spain whose legal options had been exhausted were also offered terminations.

That's why it isn't in our media. No American women involved.

Do you always type your messages while looking in the mirror, or do you live in a "heavy irony" field?
