A thanksgiving proposal

So I'm slowly rounding out a second year of living in New England but I would rather not spend Thanksgiving by myself like I did last year (I have no family anywhere nearby).

What I propose is a skeptics-Thanksgiving get together. It doesn't have to be on Thanksgiving, we can settle on one day of that weekend. I could host, but I don't have that much floor space for people to sleep over in my tiny apartment. :( I could be easily convinced to make some hearty tamales though... :D

Thoughts and ideas?

... you know I'm just remembering that tamales is a very long process to make and it's much easier when you have people join in to help to make the big batch. I'm willing to teach and put up the materials... who wants to help? ;)

*ETA I forgot to add that I love to cook...

hmmm. I'm on the other side of the country, of course, but I like the idea. I haven't really decided if I my plans call for me to be alone in San Francisco on Thanksgiving or alone in Los Angeles on thanksgiving. Or alone in Tokyo, for that matter.

If you guys get some details worked out and want this event added to the calendar, please drop me a PM! :)

Where do you live SC? I don't know what my plans are yet. I may be traveling out of state to be with family. If I'm not, I'd love to participate. I could even host although I don't have a big house and it's covered with cat/dog fur. I could make the turkey! But it's hard to tell this far in advance when I could do it.

I'm in! And even though my place is small and laid out kinda odd to cook in, I could host too if needed. SC is the Cape and I'm SE Massachusetts.

Just to clarify MA's comments, I live in East Falmouth, MA on Cape Cod. Well if I host it, you have a chance to see the Cape WITHOUT the tourists, have the beach all to yourselves and maybe even hop onto the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

... and we are still having the turkey... with the tamales (for the folks worried about having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner).

oh I've never been on the ferry, only seen endless lines of cars going on the ferry.

I'm in. My usual 'Family' Thanksgiving is delayed, due to some surgery my sister is having. And I'm dying to get together with you friends again.

My parents just bought a house on the cape in Eastham. I'm not sure how far that is but If this becomes a thing I could put some up there... assuming it's not that far. Which has not yet been established...

Or we could even have the whole thing there... Parents shouldn't mind as they'll be down in New York with grandma.

I see everyone is interested in hosting this already but.. I'd be glad to host Thanksgiving dinner down here (I'm really interested in helping make tamales, I really want to be in on that, I've never tried before.)
Steve started a Thanksgiving tradition of doing deep-fried turkey. We have the giant outdoor deep fryer, it's delicious! As yummy as whole roast pig!

Oh. My. Buster.

Mumchup, why is it you tend to make my dreams come true? :pixie2

I'd like to throw in I'll take care of the apple pie angle of this shindig. And organize any other dessert requests there may be.

Ooo deep fried turkey is wonderful! Even if I have Thanksgiving plans I may have to cancel them. :D

People are sometimes skeptical of deep fried turkey until they try it. You can't dismiss such delicious, delicious evidence.

I vote we have it at Mumchups as she has a STEVE!!!!

Steves are good!

And when else am I going to get to try a deep fried turkey?

Tamales sound like you can transport the ingrediants, but a turkey deep fryer sounds rather big and oily and stuff.

will kimchup be there? That would make things perfect.

Hmm this thread is making me want to fry the turkey again for thanksgiving.

I don't know if I would be up for a thanksgiving day event, but in the weekend it might work. Need to see if my girlfriend has that Saturday off, that was still an unanswered question last I asked.

Well first of all I'm STEVE. And second, I'm offering a whole cottage on the cape if people want to get together for a JREF thanksgiving for the northeasterners (or anyone else who would make that big a trek).

It's near the beach... not that that really matters... unless you wanted to go fishing or something... um...

That's about it... but it has cable tv and stuff as well. Hell, I might even bring the 1080p flat panel if you're nice to me.
