Who's argued that a well regulated militia means never having to raise a proper army during war? In case you weren't aware, we were then a small, young nation fighting the strongest army on earth.

You were fighting a load of war weary soilders who probably didn't want to be there on your own turf with veryl little difference in weapon qualitiy. If the mililta isn't going to work under those conditions it never will.

As a challenge to Jon, show us some statements by the founding fathers that was against personal ownership of arms. If you find some, you won't find many, that's for sure.
