Split Thread A second impeachment

A little lower down.

I get to this. That doesn't seem to have any relevance:

I think the forward tilt may be an optical illusion caused by the size of his yuge ass. If it really is a tilt, then it may be a subconscious invitation to kiss his yuge ass.

But seriously, I think it's because he's trying to puff up his chest to look manly and his yuge ass needs to shift backwards to maintain balance.

It seems rather absurd to play games of pretending to say something through inadequate links with subsequent mystery clues rather than...just saying something. But I do like puzzles. So I will wait see if the "yuge ass" post was the correct solution.

Before Jan 6, the FBI and Pelosi's Capitol Police chief had warnings that troublemakers were coming.

Pelosi declined Trump's advance offer of 10K National Guardsmen for protecting the Capitol.

Trump said "... have a peaceful protest"

There is clear footage of Capitol guards allowing the mob access by moving barricades aside.

When that actual footage was posted on this site, a fake skeptic saw it and said: "What the actual ****...?"

It was a set up.

Did Trump tell you this on one of your personal phone calls with him?

I am somewhat surprised that McConnell and others could not drum up support from 17 Senators. I'm sure there are at least 17 Republican Senators who would like the kick Trump out. But apparently there are concerns over donors and voters where they are not willing to take that risk.

Again, it's worth noting that some of them are reportedly worried about their safety and the safety of their families. Seems credible to be afraid of consequences like that when you turn against an irrational, violent mob who have proven themselves willing to go to extremes.

*sigh*

It's too far beside the point now. What I tried to direct you to was a post in which I imagined Obama inciting a riot and what an analogous crowd of "Obama supporters" could look like.

I agree. When McConnell first said that Trump has committed an impeachable offence I thought "That's it! Trump's done". But no...something happened and The Turtle has done an about face. I'm sure one day, maybe not for years from now, it will all come out. But something happened to change his direction because McConnell hates Trump and would get rid of him in a heartbeat if he could.

Look at y'all two, actually trusting Moscow Mitch McConnell. That's so...adorable.

It's very simple, Mitch does what's best for his own pockets and his own power. It's why he does not care about helping others, it's why he sat with miners who travelled from Kentucky to beg for his own pension for less than a minute, only to tell them that he was siding with the owners who raided their pension, it's why he's constantly pulling stunt votes on non-binding bills that only ever signal intent and are not at all actual bills that can be signed into law, it's why he would happily toss out any universal health care plan to line his pockets, and it's why he decided to work with Toupee Fiasco once he won nomination for president.

Mitch McConnell is every bit the amoral scumbag that Dolt 45 is, but he's smarter. His position here is very simple - what Dolt 45 did was absolutely impeachable, but golly gee willikers he can't be impeached once he's out of office what an oopsie-doodle Pelosi did, they'll have to leave Toupee Fiasco off to run again, or go to prison, or finally be poisoned by the Kremlin, whatever works as long as the GOP's rabid white nationalist cult of personality base doesn't blame him or the other senators.

That's it.

Well, I didn't know it, and neither did the writer, who says he's a long-time student of nuclear control issues. And he doesn't mention any extra footballs. I doubt they keep spares in the hall closet.

What would happen if the President was 'taken out'?

How would the Vice President take control if there wasn't another 'Football' available to him?

This changes everything? Nikki Haley splits with Trump. (I've only seen it as Breaking News but can't find a link yet.)

Apparently she's going to make a run for President next time around. Could the Republicanati see the wind shifting and skew towards voting for Trump's impeachment?

Here's an article at The Hill (via MSN):

"We need to acknowledge he let us down," Haley, who served in her ambassador role under Trump, said. "He went down a path he shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him, and we shouldn't have listened to him. And we can't let that ever happen again."
...
Haley in the days immediately following the attack said in a speech to Republican National Committee members that Trump was "badly wrong with his words," at his Jan. 6 rally.

"And it wasn't just his words," she added at the time. "His actions since Election Day will be judged harshly by history."

I doubt it.

Instead they might say they're disappointed in the actions which led to the storming of the Capitol but immediately pivot back to supporting him when it remains clear that the Trump supporters are still the dominant force in the party.

Most likely... she sees various contenders for the 2024 primaries lining up behind Stubby McBonespurs (like Cruz, Rubio, Ivanka/Trump Jr., etc.), and decided that she needed to do... something... to differentiate herself from the rest of the pack. (As we have seen in other primaries... you don't necessarily have to get majority support, especially if its a crowded field.)

In other words, it is likely personal ambition on the part of Haley, rather than any sort of personal desire to "fix" the republicans, or any sort of shift in republican politics.

Proof? You're using the wrong standard, for this impeachment trial and any criminal trial. The standard is, ".... beyond a reasonable doubt..." So forget "proof" and ask whether there is some reasonable doubt that Trump both wanted and encouraged violence. If so, I'd like to hear the reasoning.

Remember, the evidence you must consider is not just Jan. 6. Rather you must consider the ~11 months that T**** has been building up to that date with his lies, innuendo, and bravado. Evidence was also introduced of his direct, specific exhortations to violence at many of his rallies.

I, for one, cannot find *any* room for "reasonable doubt" hiding somewhere in that mountain of evidence.

Well if you are no the jury, that will be one vote then.

I just don't know if any prosecutor could get the other 11. It would be kind of nice if they did, but we'll take that one step at a time.

I wish more Republican Senators could see that their personal ambitions are better served by voting to convict. We may end up with a GOP that can at least fake good governance instead of what we have now.

For all the good it will do, just sent to my two Senators from Tennessee, with appropriate Senator’s names, of course:

Dear Senator Blackburn,

I suspect that based on your prior words and actions that you intend to vote to acquit former President Trump in this current impeachment trial.

If you do, be aware that you will never in good faith be able to claim to be on the side of “Law and Order” or that you honestly feel “Blue Lives Matter”. The former President clearly violated his oath to “protect and defend the Constitution” and set the stage for the insurrection that occurred on January 6, a day that will live in infamy. People inflamed by his words literally beat police officers with the American flag and wanted to “Hang Mike Pence”. Your own Senate has ruled the impeachment constitutional, and the evidence presented so far is overwhelming that the former President is, in fact, guilty of the charges against him.

I am a new resident of Tennessee. I have been a registered Republican for virtually all of my adult life. However, if either you or Senator Hagerty vote to acquit the former President, I will never vote for either of you, and will actively oppose your reelection.

Please put aside any blind allegiance you may have to the former President and put country over party and vote to convict him for his egregious acts. If you fail to do so, this betrayal of your oath is what history will primarily remember you for.

I share your pessimism about your letter's actual impact, but . . . well said, sir!

Opening defense salvo, don't believe what you saw, only the fantasy. "Trump didn't do it" is real.

And I see we are going to hear about election fraud and how justified all of Trump's action's were.

And off we go into whataboutism.... with a false equivalence cherry on top.

And straw men arguments abound. Like I said, don't believe what you saw.
