Split Thread A second impeachment

I can't believe people are still stuck on the upcoming impeachment while ignoring the far more important topic : Trump resigns from SAG.

I just posted about this in the Trump's Accomplishments thread. I loved his claim that TV is a "dying platform with not much time left," and that
"[I've] created thousands of jobs at networks such as MSDNC and Fake News CNN, among many others"!

I don't think it was a stunt at all. If they didn't invite him, Trump, his lawyers, and his supporters would then claim he was never given the opportunity to defend himself. Of course, the fact that he could have appeared without being invited by the Dems would never be mentioned. They would just scream that he was not allowed to appear by the Dems.
They (Democrats running the impeachment trial) should subpoena Trump anyways.

Granted, he will either not show up, or if he does, he probably won't say anything. But, a letter asking him to show up (which he could politely decline) lets him off too easily. Instead, make him openly state that he "pleads the 5th" (something that we all know only guilty people do).

I agree. Subpoena his lying ass. He'll either lie and he's a bad liar because he contradicts himself. Or he'll take the 5th which will look very bad as he's claimed that only the guilty claim the 5th. Or he'll repeat his false claims that and be torn to shreds by the facts. Or he'll say he can't remember which will make him look like he's lying or has dementia.

I am asking you to express an opinion on the points in the impeachment document. All of which are verifiable by everybody. The information is public.

I did. It's political propaganda. The speech Trump gave is also available to the public. If you could bring yourself to listen to it, you'd understand why Democrats will lose this attempt to disqualify Trump from office.

Do you consider those acts acceptable for a democratically elected leader?
Yep, I've seen speeches before. Seemed normal to me.

This is not a court case. This is a political procedure. Every voter should decide whether they will support such actions.
Yep, this is not a court case because President Trump has committed no crime. Looks to me that the FBI is arresting those who broke into the Capitol building. Trump doesn't appear to be in custody.

This is not a court case. It is not about the evidence; the evidence is clear. It is about whether the conduct shown is compatible with the office of president.
Yep not a court case. It's all about the evidence; the evidence is clear that Trump never incited riots during his speech, only a peaceful march and protest. Anything else is propaganda.

Oh I can. I don't hate him. I just despise him too much to say his name. You might notice that I rarely use swear words. Where I come from, liars are generally considered despicable.

nope, it’s about more than the Jan 6 speech. The article of impeachment explicitly references his phone call to the Georgia election officials, and mentions in general other acts and words before Jan 6.

We know why his clear incitement ("It's gonns be wild!") won't get him convicted : whatever he said or did, Republican Senators won't recognise his guilt. Any more than you will.

Why do you think Trump was too weak to call for an insurrection?

Yep, I've seen speeches before. Seemed normal to me.
There's a saying over here : "Normal for Norfolk". (It's a county unfairly renowned for in-breeding.)

Trump was too cowardly to join the insurrectionists. He sent them on their way then scuttled off to a safe place - just as you'd expect.

Yep, I've seen speeches before. Seemed normal to me.

I've listened to it several times. If you consider that a 'normal' speech, I think the problem has been detected.

Note to all: I'll respond in detail after the impeachment trial verdict. I'm really not interested in a TDS fest or one sided propaganda prior to that. I'm interested in the facts as they are presented at trial and the ruling on the facts. Thanks.

Yeah, you do that. It's not like we and you haven't seen the Jan. 6 speech, or his months long false rants about the 'rigged and stolen election' or heard his telephone call asking the GA SofS to 'find' those votes he needs to overturn the GA election. Thanks.

I did. It's political propaganda.

Wow!! The brief is political propaganda. So I ask what were Trump's hysterical accusations since the Election that it was fraudulent!? Which were unmitigated lies. Or how about his repeated statements before the Election that if he lost it could only be due to fraud. (Need I remind you that in 2016 Trump was alleging he could only lose if their was fraud, and afterwards he claimed Hillary got 3 million fraudulent votes. Note - An investigation set up by Trump to find the fraud found zip. Isn't this lying political propaganda?

The speech Trump gave is also available to the public. If you could bring yourself to listen to it, you'd understand why Democrats will lose this attempt to disqualify Trump from office.

The Democrats will almost certainly lose the Impeachment trial because many of the Republican Senators are gutless and spineless. Remember what Trump said years ago about what would happen if he murdered someone in public?

I have listened to the speech and read it. There is plenty of incitement in it along with out and out lies. Trump repeats over and over again about the election being fraudulent, stolen etc. Which is of course utter nonsense. Of course Trump includes some phrases / words to give himself plausible deniability, or so he thinks. But to me it is damn obvious that Trump was whipping up the crowd and very clearly the intent of the march on the Capital and pressure Pence to violate the law. Oh and isn't it just amazing that so many of the Capital rioters are saying that they thought they were doing what Trump wanted them too.

The speech fits the classic pattern of incitement combined with a threadbare attempt at plausible deniability. Demagogues having been using similar rhetorical strategies for thousands of years.

Yep, I've seen speeches before. Seemed normal to me.

Lets see a speech in which the audience afterwards tried to storm a building to disrupt the normal transfer of political power after an Election is not "normal", especially when the speech is full of lies about a stolen Election and the speaker after telling them that their country is going to be taken from them says that they must march on the Capital to pressure the VP and others to disregard the law. It is perfectly obvious what Trump was doing and the speech was not 'normal". If you think this is a "normal" speech - whatever?!

Yep, this is not a court case because President Trump has committed no crime. Looks to me that the FBI is arresting those who broke into the Capitol building. Trump doesn't appear to be in custody.

So what. The fact that Trump is cowardly leaving is followers to twist in the wind says little for him. They thought they were doing what he wanted. Trump did of course say he would march with them. He did not. He left them to again - twist in the wind.

Yep not a court case. It's all about the evidence; the evidence is clear that Trump never incited riots during his speech, only a peaceful march and protest. Anything else is propaganda.

Hilarious. If Trump didn't incite a riot it needs to be explained why one happened right after he gave a speech and told them to march on the Capital. And of course this ignores context. In this case the context of Trump lying for months about a stolen Election, of him trying to pressure officials to disregard the actual results. Of him lending no support or concern to Republican officials getting death threats, but instead attacking them further. And so on and so forth.

This ignores his behavior once the riot started where he did nothing for hours but instead persisted in his attempts to have the Election results overturned, delayed etc. All of which indicates Trump had little problem with what was going on.

And has of right now Trump continues to push the Propaganda lie that the Election was stolen.

Trump is a practitioner of the outrageous propaganda lie. Stalin, Mao and Hitler would be proud.

Physician, heal thyself.

Actually Trump needs to cure himself of his habit of telling insane barefaced lies. I wonder if Trump has a psychological disorder that he needs to be healed from?

Yes. He made bit appearances in several movies.

Pat Leahy is also a SAG member because of his cameos in the Batman movies.
But he had the best cameo any politican every had in a movie in "The Dark Knight".
HE TOLD OFF THE JOKER!

That's is so much cooler then telling Macualay Culkin where the desk it...

I see the SAG's atitude toward Donnie quiting Is "Don't let the door hit your butt on the way out".

They need to re-do Home Alone 2 and have someone tell Trump that he can go (blank) himself.

Oh please! We all know that a guilty verdict is unlikely because of the spinelessness of so many Republicans. We all know if the first Impeachment trial is anything to go on many of them will disregard the evidence and vote out of what they regard has political expediency.

And again you say you are not interested in "propaganda" so once again I ask what do you call Trump's lying campaign claiming massive Election fraud? Isn't that "propaganda"?

And the ruling in the trial will not be on the facts. A majority will vote guilty but it will not be enough to convict Trump. (You need 2/3rds). I suspect it will be all 50 Democrats voting guilty joined by c. 5 Republicans - not enough.

As for TDS, (Trump Derangement Syndrome), please explain why it is a problem being angry with a politician who by means of outrageous lies and crass tactics seeks to undermine a fair and legal Election in order to stay in power. Is it possible you have no problem with any of this?!

It's a sad, diminishing world for those suffering from TCS (Trump Cheerleading Syndrome). Everyone has seen the evidence, it's painfully obvious that Trump pushed a false narrative of election fraud and incited insurrection at the Capitol, but those with TCS are desperate to pretend otherwise.

It happened, and the history is written. There's no way out of that, no matter how GOP Senators vote.

This is what the Daily News says about Trump being forced to testify Opinion:

Daily News said:
Trump will be forced to admit that he made those statements.

It’s 2021!
Why do people persist in the asinine idea that Trump is a rational actor?

He has clearly demonstrated that he cannot be forced to admit something he said 3 minutes ago.

Daily News said:
There are other areas that have the potential for providing devastating evidence against Trump on the witness stand. For example, particularly damning would be proof that Trump was given intelligence briefings in advance of Jan. 6 showing that he was informed that his supporters were planning violence at the Capitol. If he admitted seeing such a report, it would prove beyond any doubt that he knew the consequences of his words to the domestic terrorists who stormed the Capitol. If he denies seeing those reports, it would show he was purposely ignoring his duties as president to protect and defend the United States government.

Catch 22, my aunt Fanny.

President Pinocchio will simply say, “I read that report and it did not include any mention of planned violence.” His loyal followers will swallow that lie and become even more convinced that the whole thing is a kangaroo court.
Of course, that answer assumes that DJT doesn’t have a psychotic break and yell, “did I read it!? I wrote that report! I know more than any of my so-called intelligence agencies.”
