Should we shut the hypothetical street corner porn booth

Ok. Attempting to address this:

I wouldn't want it, because it would make the town look like a sleazy skid row. I wouldn't want a "Room for boning should the mood strike you to get railed on every street corner" either, although I wouldn't want sex generally to be criminalized.

Am.i on point with the premise so ambiguous that a meaningful answer can't be formulated yet?

Is it still the case that you think the following (even though you have formerly withdrawn the charge)?

I have asked a few times now because it seems that such a view is adjacent to a 'yea' above.
You've asked a few times now because you're trying to manufacture consensus. I've withdrawn from that particular conversation because I'm not interested in having my words twisted to try to manufacture consensus. Since you won't engage good faith argumentation in good faith, I'm not offering it anymore.

Faux irritation. You won't answer.

All this amounts to is attempting to frame internet port as if they were brick and mortar stores.

If you don't want brick and mortar porn shops that kids can sneak into on every street corner, why is it OK on the internet where kids can sneak onto the sites?

My answer is, there were always brick and mortar shops that sold porn. The comic book shop I went to as a kid was one. Yes, we could occasionally sneak a peek. Mostly, it was good for giggles. As was finding someone's dad's stash of magazines. From what I've seen, internet porn is about the same with regard to kids. There are a few who might be obsessed with it, but that's most likely a symptom of other problems. Nothing new.

Oh, and just like the people who thought Loony Tunes was too violent, you underestimate kids.

Print porn still exists? And there are physical stores for it? This seems rather unlikely. "Every street corner"? Where, in 1970s London?

"It's Christmas Day!" said Scrooge to himself. "I haven't missed it. The Spirits, have done it all in one night. They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can. Hallo my fine fellow!"

"Hallo!" returned the boy.

"Do you know the Pornographer's in the next street but one, at the corner?" Scrooge inquired.

"Uncle Scrooge be macking for some hard-core hentai"

No issues regarding sleaziness are mentioned...just the kids seeing porn.

My irritation is very real. And yes, you've cracked the code: I won't answer. Cracking the code isn't much of an achievement, though, since I've already told you I won't answer.
Ok, apologies. I won't mention it again.
And removed.

Ok, sooooo... these establishments don't advertise at all? Just a booth on the street corner, or in a plain brick and mortar store front? I mean, I'm having trouble with what you are trying to get us to picture, in order to formulate the social issue response from there. This isn't Philosophy, so the moral angle is going to vary based on the practical social context.

Apology accepted.

For what it's worth, I have my own concerns about pornography and its effects on society. They're not all aligned with your concerns, and I don't agree with your policy prescriptions as I understand them.

What I resent is you trying to take my good-faith expressions of my own concerns, and twist them into agreement with your own positions. You have thoroughly convinced me that you are not interested in a good faith discussion of the issues. You have even convinced me that you're not interested in anything as basic and pro-social as a good faith presentation of your own position on the issues.

You keep trying to force engagement on your own terms, instead of accepting that people will engage when and how they like. You keep trying to manufacture consensus where dissent prevails. You're effectively poisoning the discourse you're trying to promote.

See, this is a perfect example of the way you refuse to make your arguments in good faith.

We already know you're not concerned about the kids seeing porn - you're concerned that anyone is seeing porn, that porn even exists in the first place. We know that you're making an emotional appeal to "the children" because you're not satisfied with the quality and reception of your argument against porn in general.

I'll confess that I'm probably one of the few American boys who has little interest in porn. I have little interest in watching professional sports for the same reason- it's not engaging to watch other guys having all the fun while I sit there not having it.

In fairness, I wasn't following the other thread and not entirely sure about the backstory and run-up here. Is that why the OP posit doesn't make sense and is kind of in the wrong subforum?

On every street corner there is a self-service 'establishment' (loosely defined) that stocks porn. A sign on the door says 'over eighteens only' but anyone entering can do so safe in the knowledge that they will be alone and unobserved. It is well known that children regularly go there.

Doesn't sound terribly different from the reality I and many of my fellow Gen-Xers grew up in (maybe not quite *every* street corner, though). I'm not sure why this rates a thread.

Yes. Nobody in the other thread is playing his reindeer games to his satisfaction, so Rudolph is hoping a change of venue will rehabilitate his appeal to analogy and "think of the children!" meta.
