According to this article, President Obama has rejected a plea in a petition signed by 34,000 people to build a moon-sized, planet-destroying, "Death Star." The idea was that such a project would put lots of people to work for a long time. While 34,000 amounts to a minuscule fraction of the American electorate, I'm assuming that such a large number indicates these folks intended their petition to be taken seriously.
Are there that many followers of the Force out there? Or was this really a put on? Of course, I'm aware there are other petitions circulating that, while not as absurd as this one, are really dumb, but I'm still astounded.
