A challenge to all atheists...

A so-called Catholic Apologist had issued a challenge to all atheists at
kingdomofchrist.net. I accepted that challenge and for around the past year have critiqued his views. I have posted the entire dialogue at infidelguy.com (under their library section and then debates). As with many of the catholic choirboys I have debated, I have to say I find their arguments for theism (and catholicism in particular) to be rather, for a lack of a better word, stupid and illogical. He attempts to show some logical consistency but engages in logical fallacies in the meantime.

Out of all the people I debate with, I would have to say catholics are the worse by far (as far as reasoning goes).

My question is, do you find this to be true in your experience? For former catholics, what made you realize the foolishness of this religion?

In my experience, Trotskyists are the worst. Libertarians are up there. I've never had much to do with passionate Catholics, more with the comfortable ones - and it is a comfortable religion. Casting back, I don't think one Catholic has ever tried to convert me.

I've played stunt-logic with folk who have a Jesuitical background, but we were all just funning around. The schools I attended were designed to produce lawyers and politicians so it's a pretty level playing-field.

I'm also puzzled by the universalist. If they believe everyone is going to heaven, why debate anybody? They should just let everyone be.

Oops! Sorry, I didn't realize you were talking to yourself. You're right, of course, "logical" arguments about religion should go unchallenged.

Don't give them the power to draw you into their games.

Life is far too short - don't waste it on them.

I don't think I've ever heard a fundie use the term, "I believe". It's always, "I know". "Jesus told me"....

Well I applaud you. Even if you don't have a chance in Hell of changing the mind of the person whom you're debating you may influence others who read your posts. When I was a creationist Christian over twenty years ago it was the sound logical arguments of certain people that led me to question the blind faith I was taught. Even if one lurker is made curious enough to look into the matter more deeply and realizes that evolutionary theory is not what he/she has been told it is by his/her religious leader then it will all have been worth it. When we decide that it just isn't worth the effort anymore the woos will win.
