If it's not a stupid parlor game, then why are its adherents nothing but the "leisure class" (albeit, not "leisure" because they're rich like in the past, but because they're losers) who take fun in endless word games and useless charades?

What is this thread about? Is it about how incredibly stupid truther theories are, or is it about the nature of the people that tout them like Fetzer, or is it about the possibility that truther nonsense might have been a motivating factor for the Gabrielle Giffords shooter?
Assuming that it is the latter:
I saw a snippet of a Bill O'Reilly show the other day where he thought that since the shooter had been shown to be nuts that the acrimonious political climate in Arizona had now been proven not to be a cause. I think O'Reilly missed the point there. Being a nutjob and being affected by an acrimonious political environment are not mutually exclusive.
And similarly the impact of truther nonsense on miscellaneous wackos is difficult to know exactly so maybe it is in the range of plausible that truther nonsense could have played a role in the Giffords shooter's rampage? I don't know, but perhaps somebody participating in this thread might have an opinion?
What is the impact of truther nonsense in general? I would think it's pretty small, some people haven't even heard of it, but even given the small number of people that I meet, three of them have suggested some belief in truther nonsense, two of them at least seemed to be fairly bright. So for sure, in society as a whole there are a great many people that think that their government was involved in perpetrating the 9-11 disaster. And in that big pool of people there are certainly many wackos. And maybe some of them might engage in some pretty horrendous acts if they have come to believe some forms of the the truther nonsense.
