8.3 Magnitude Earthquake off Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile – An 8.3-magnitude earthquake struck southern Chile early Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. A tsunami warning was issued.

The quake hit 197 miles (317 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Santiago, and at a depth of 36.9 miles (59.4 kilometers) at 3:34 a.m. (0634 GMT; 1:34 a.m. EST).

CNN International is devoting a huge % of its coverage to this, including the tsunami alert across what seems virtually the entire Pacific.
Other international channels (BBC AL Jaz) don't seem to have the same sense of urgency about it, yet.

CNN saying that due to potential 10-15 foot tsunami, an evacuation order will be given to the lower-lying areas of Hawaii at 6am their time and the tsunami may eventually hit the East coast of Australia. Hope everybody is okay out there!

Residents of Hawaii will wake up to a 6 AM tsunami siren today. The first waves will arrive over 5 hours after that warning.

California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska are not in the tsunami warning zone for this quake.

I visited Patricio 2-3 years ago in Santiago. I saw no immorality. I was quite disappointed.

We still have four hours to wait... Hokulele and I are high enough to not be any sort of personally concerned (although I'm scheduled to attend a family event in the evacuation zone later today). I know there are others in lower places (Dogdoctor, at least) though.
