Austrian Police: You Could Hear The Victims Screaming

VIENNA, Austria -- Austrian authorities said Wednesday they have uncovered a major international child pornography ring involving more than 2,360 suspects from 77 countries, including hundreds in the United States, who paid to view videos of young children being sexually abused.

The children were under the age of 14 and screams could be heard, said Harald Gremel, an Austrian police expert on Internet crime who headed the investigation.

Interior Minister Guenther Platter said the FBI was investigating about 600 of the suspects in the United States. German authorities were following leads on another 400 people, France was looking into about 100 others, and at least 23 suspects were Austrians, he said.

Anybody who's guilty of intentionally downloading this, I have no problem with throwing the book at them. And the people who produced it, give them a Saddam-style necktie party.

I think the people who did or want to watch this should be taken out back and receive a good butt-whippin, but go to jail for being a perv or having sick sexual fantasies doesn't sound right, tempting as it may be in this case.

The people who DID this however.....not simply death. Torture first.

Indee where I was going, though we refer to it as education.

I agree whole-heartedly, but the people who paid to see this are going to jail for what amounts to being an accessory to f[rule 8]g and torturing a child. I have no problem with that.

It's the difference between thinking and doing.

Exactly, these kids where abused for financial gain, in effect the sick bastards who paid for this were paying people to abuse kids for them, they are (almost) as guilty as the people who physically abused the kids.

Would there be a difference if there were no money involved?

I said "paid to see this" only to differentiate the ones who actively sought it out vs. those that might have stumbled on it, but from where I sit money doesn't make any difference- If you actively seek out material (for other than law-enforcement reasons) in which children are actually being harmed then you are just as culpable as those doing the harming. I also don't see a difference between "abused for financial gain" vs. "abused for s[rule 8]s and giggles".

It is a practical, rather than a moral point. Those that pay for child porn are actively encouraging children to be abused, those that do not pay for it are less guilty of this. I don't think that neither is acceptable, but there are much more far reaching consequences caused by those that financially support child porn, as oppose to those who get off on it but don't actively encourage More kids to be abused.
Therefore those that actively support the child porn should be treated as a worse category of criminal than those that do not fund child porn.

How did manning still sucks get set as a tag? That's great! Unfortunately, I think the article says that 600 are being investigated, which after reading other stories like this, means relatively few will actually be found or prosecuted...

This isn't just about fantasy. I don't care if somebody wants to fantasize about sex with kids, as long as they don't actually do it or facilitate someone else doing it. And that's what these people did. They purchased videos of people raping children. If you go to the supermarket and buy a steak, someone had to produce that steak for you to purchase. It's the same thing here. Someone raped children so they could sell the video. Those who purchased it, in a sense, caused those children to be raped, because they created a market for this sickness.

I have said many times before that I don't think people should be prosecuted for their thoughts. If someone thinks about little girls while masturbating, that's sick, but I don't think it should be a crime. But these people, through their purchases, caused the rape of children. Throw the book at them.

As for your second paragraph, I'm not going to advocate torture. Hang 'em high.

I agree that those found to have been involved with this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

However, I do worry about child porn being used as an excuse for IP tracing, sniffing and shutting down file sharing. Since people generally are so strongly opposed to child porn it's easy to say "We need to install all this equipment at the dsl routing office.... to protect the children."

Ugly stuff...

I have a 10-year-old daughter. I take her and her pals out on trips to the Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Liberty Science Center, the Natural History Museum, the Transit Museum...

...and I think anyone who could enjoy pornography involving little kids is a sick little ************ and should have his head kicked in and genitals stomped. I have no tolerance for these people. Those kids could be my daughter and her pals.

If I had to serve on a jury in a child-abuse case, I'd tell the judge right off, "Yep, I'm for the death penalty for this guy."

And by the way, speaking of Troofers and CTers and nutters in this stuff, Kevin Strom, the big boss of the National Alliance, one of the leading neo-Nazi groups in the US, is going inside for five years for downloading kiddie porn on his computer. Apparently this guy was obsessed with pubescent blonde-haired girls, and got caught with it on his hard drive. That may explain why he and his wife didn't do the nasty in their three years together. Mr. Strom resigned as head of his neo-Nazi outfit, admitting he had made some "serious mistakes." Yeah, but being a Nazi was the least of them, as far as I'm concerned.

Lewis Hine was absolutely right 100 years ago, when he took those pictures of little kids younger than my daughter working in factories..."Let children be children."

After I read about stuff like that, I get very upset, which is how I feel now. So I'm going to hop on the exercycle, and later on, before my daughter goes to bed, I'll beep her nose, give her a big hug, kiss her on the head, and tell her she's the best bear anywhere. She'll say "I know, Daddy, I love you too," and go to bed with her stuffed animals and her books, safe and secure for this night and every other night. :relieved:
