"Joe Biden accidentally introduced Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy as “President Putin” in a gaffe that will fuel further concerns about his mental acuity that have threatened to scuttle his presidential campaign."

ffs

Will this be the most-watched presidential presser since 9/11?

Things are happening on stage, and one poor bastard has been nominated to stand up front and look at the cameras.

Does not appear to be enjoying the task.

Undoubtedly.

Does not appear to be enjoying the task.

How are you watching? I'm still getting the "We will begin shortly" banner, and Google tells me it has been delayed.

OK, I give up. It's over. Poor Joe will fade away. I have always had more respect for him than most others in Congress. I never felt that he didn't care about people, unlike so many others.

The day he withdraws will be one of the saddest in U.S. history.

I guess Kamala Harris will get the nod. I can think of a bunch of people I'd rather see be the nominee. But even if they nominated a wet sack of hammers, I'd still vote for it. There is one, and only ONE, thing that is important: Donald Trump must NOT be the next president, if there's going to be a chance for any decent future for the world.

I don’t really understand your point here. My understanding is that there have been very long-running commentaries and narratives about Donald Trump being in court on multiple counts, had his mugshot taken, and broadcast, become a convicted felon etc….

All of this is true and worth reporting because Trump wants to be president of the United States.

As well as this, Biden is showing signs of becoming incapacitated by age or, possibly, “cognitive decline”.

Is this something the media should cover? Of course! It absolutely should. There is no point complaining about it or saying that it has no effect on voter intent. The story itself is important.

What it seems like, to me, assuming your post is not satire (and I apologize for not understanding the subtlety if it is), is that you think it is the media’s job to report in a partisan way. That Trump calling Chris Christie a fat pig, needs to be the news story, and Biden being extremely debilitated by age, to be passed over in silence, if the voters are okay with it.

Of course, it might be different where you are. Maybe the coverage is wall-to-wall and therefore no longer worth banging on about, but I am surprised to read people saying that the reason we are talking about this is because of some media concoction. People around the world have been able to watch these live videos of him.

Anyway, let’s see how he is in the press conference without commentary.
Both here in Norway and, as far as I can tell, in the States, there's been neverending coverage of only Biden's (allegedly) declining faculties. Nothing or next to nothing on the state of Dump, or the Chevron deference decision, or the president gaining immunity, or Project 2025. The coverage of Biden's health in itself has been shockingly sensationalized and biased against him.

We're slamming the media precisely because it's sensationalist and partisan.

Now we have reports that Democratic politicians are claiming that Joe has been going downhill for the last year or more, and that party leadership has hidden this from them and the public. If true, a bunch of heads should roll. They can't even get a press conference started on time.

Undoubtedly.

AP.

They've given that guy a break and are now showing a totally pissed-off crowd of reporters with numb arses as they play some thoroughly military music.

I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if she couldn't beat Trump.

ETA: Oh, apparently this is what he said.... "Biden says he “wouldn’t have picked vice-president Trump to be vice-president if I didn’t think she was not qualified to be president.”"

Apart from that, he's certainly doing better and being more coherent than in the ABC interview. Maybe he's had another chance to explain what he meant then about chips, etc...

I remember Bush making lots of gaffes, too. No one accused him of being demented.
If anyone wants a trip down memory lane, here's some memorable ones. I especially love the one where he boasts that 'we' never stop thinking of new ways to harm our country and its people.

Oh, and who can forget when he in 2022, following russia's invasion of Ukraine, condemned the invasion of... Iraq.

But I already see news sites making the putin/Zelensky name gaffe their top story, because of course they are. I get it's summertime and Komkommertijd, but come on, you have a responsibility to your viewers. It's as if they want Dump to win.

So far, he's made only slight stumbles that anyone can make when they're talking fast, and recovered immediately.

He's still having trouble with names.

Someone should have given him the quip: "Find me a parent who hasn't called one of their kids by the wrong name."

End of.

I'm giving him a solid 9/10 so far and unless he screws up somehow, any debate is over.
