I want people to suggest that lie is a weird hill to die on. And it still won't get the childless cat ladies to vote for him

It's like they're intentionally trying to lose.
Or they realize how incredibly stupid that lie was, and instead of admitting that to themselves, they double down, dig their heels in, and keep at it to pretend that oh, the lie is actually good, people just don't get it!

Like that guy who will embarrass themselves by defending a point long after they've realized they were in fact wrong, because backing down would be too embarrassing.

What I liked was Trump's excuse for not having any more than concepts- "I'm not president right now." Aside from the fact that he was at one time, for four years (and, IIRC, with a GOP congressional majority for the first two), and never seemed to get anything done beyond concepts... it might be fair to point out that neither is Harris (president right now). So it's a little rich when he tries to saddle her with all the (perceived) failings re immigration of the Biden administration while excusing his own failures (both historical and conceptual) in one policy area on a ground that's equally applicable to her in the other. It's certainly true that she's a part of that administration, but the Vice-Presidency is pretty famously a position that has no more actual power than what the President chooses to give it. In this case, Harris was tasked with inquiring into the root causes of immigration, but never, so far as I recall, given any power to make or enforce immigration policy. (And can you see Trump as President again giving a VP Vance the power, responsibility or credit for anything that the Trump administration achieves? I can't.)

So, try as hard as Trump can to make it seem so, Harris isn't actually responsible for the immigrants in Ohio who aren't eating cats, dogs, or geese not doing that. And for the same reason that he can't offer any more than "concepts of a plan" for health-care issues-she isn't President right now. (The difference being that what's an actual reason in her case is only an excuse in his)

They don't even need to do that. According to JD Vance, it hasn't been disproved, so (by that standard) there's not any need for evidence, manufactured or otherwise, for what is simply asserted as the default.

Because that's worked for them so far.

It's not like this is some untested tactic that failed them in the past.

This is a guy who ran on "I'm gonna build a wall and make Mexico pay for it" and then got elected, didn't built the wall, asked his followers to pay for the wall he promised Mexico would pay for, their dumb asses did it, and then he still didn't build the wall.

Again will it work again, will it work long term, all that is highly debatable but there is no way to deny that acting exactly this stupid in exactly this way is what got Trump elected in the first place.

Trump is Don McLean playing a concert. Yeah I'm pretty sure he's gonna play American Pie.
