2020 USA presidential election.

I for one would LOVE it if Tammy Duckworth threw her hat into the ring for President. She checks so many boxes and has very little political baggage to undermine her bid. Plus; decorated war hero who is a double amputee? Imagine the PR that could bring.

The only thing I don't know is whether she's considered a natural-born citizen; she was born in Bankok, Thailand to a Thai mother and an American father. They settled in Hawaii when she was sixteen, according to her Wiki page. I'm assuming, since she was born to an American father who worked for the UN that she's still legally a natural-born citizen, but I can't find a definitive answer online as to whether that's really the case.

My Google-fu is weak. :(

She's a natural born US citizen, by law. Even if her father didn't register her at the Embassy, there's no time limit on that formality. The standard procedure, which I followed with my avatar, is that you file for a "CRBA" which is short for "Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America". Most people do it when they're babies. My son has had his US passport and SS# since he was six months old. He's currently on his second (soon third) passport. State keeps records of passports; it'd be real easy for someone to double-check if she's been traveling under a US passport her whole life.

Then again, it doesn't matter. The mere fact of her birth to a U.S. Citizen parent is sufficient. She's a U.S. citizen.

When's their baby due? I'd like to see her breast-feeding in the Senate, just to watch Mike Pence go all twitchy-puritan.

fagin called dibs on a 2020 thread late 2016.

So underhanded... :(:(

Hillary Clinton started running for President sometime in 2006. You gotta start early! :p

Actually, that's the perceived "wisdom" because you need to line up backers and build a war chest, but it probably sank HC. Too many years, too much familiarity, too many lines of copy with which to hammer home the Ebil Hillary meme. That's why I think the most-commonly-referred-to are all pretty much "brand recognition". If you have a choice between Tide and Amalgamate Laundry Detergent, you probably buy Tide. (You being the "general" you.) Biden, Clinton, Sanders, Warren... I don't think any of them will be the Democratic standard bearer.

Trump is much better at running for office than at running an office.
Given enough air-time, he might convince enough people to give him a second chance.

And trumpf popping in on occasion to check her out while she was doing such. Pence twitches, trumpf hardens.

You won't often find me in this sub-forum, but I'm curious about a couple of names of potential Democrat presidential picks raised by The Gradiaun here in Blighty: Kirsten Gillibrand and Amy Klobuchar. Anyone know anything? They also raised Elizabeth Warren, who I would like to have seen running last time, but she'll be in her 70s in 2020.

Depending on the role he will play in uncovering dirt on Trump and cover-up by the GOP, I could see Adam Schiff paired with a women, either in first or second position.

I raised in the other thread Pete Buttigieg
