2020 Election catchall.

I got yelled at by a pollworker this morning when i finished my ballot and put it in the machine. Apparently i wasn't supposed to use THAT machine, WHY DO YOU THINK THERE WAS A TABLE IN FRONT OF IT? uh, cuz it's 2020 and just because there's a table in front of a checkout to you know, keep the Covid at bay, doesnt mean i can walk out of a store without paying? The lady in front of me put her completed ballot in, so i didnt think anything of it, and besides, if you dont want anyone using THAT machine, why don't you turn it off, or put a sign like "do not use"? in the end, I was assured, after a heavy sigh, that our votes would be counted.

The Biden ballots go into that other machine that looks like a shredder.

I walked by my polling place today about 3pm -- virtually nobody there! I've never seen that before, even at Primaries. I guess most everybody got their votes in early!

Mine was empty at noon.

Freaking Mitch is back in. I didn't expect him to lose, but I had a tiny bit of hope. Maybe Covid will take him and save the world.

I trust that, in retrospect, you have some sympathy for the clearly stressed-out poll-worker, what with Covid and all the other crap going on.

Looks like the big money spent by Lyft, Uber etc. out in California paid off, as Proposition 22 was passed. This allows gig companies to continue classifying employees as contractors, excempting them from California labour laws.

The campaign has been the by far most expensive in Californian history, with more than $200 million being spent by those in favour: https://ballotpedia.org/What_were_the_most_expensive_ballot_measures_in_California

Voters in Mississippi has voted in favour of the New Magnolia flag as the new state flag, replacing the old that was scrapped over the summer due to it containing the confederate battle flag.

However, it contains the phrase 'In God we trust', which the Satanic Temple has vowed to sue over.

A roundup from CNN on some of the state-wide issues on the ballot:
Louisiana voters approved a constitutional amendment limiting abortion protections. In case Roe v Wade is struck down, the amendment would prevent the state courts from declaring abortion restrictions unconstitutional at the state level.

Colorado voters rejected a ban on abortion beginning at 22 weeks of pregnancy. The state one of seven that doesn't have a specific time bar on abortions.

Arizona, New Jersey, South Dakota have voted to legalize recreational marijuana. Result is still out in Montana and Mississippi.

There was an expensive (high spending on both sides) right-to-repair initiative in MA, requiring automotive digital systems to not be closed or encrypted (which would mean only dealer repair shops could work with them). The automakers ran a huge scare ad campaign claiming, among other things, that right-to-repair compliance would allow hackers to remotely take control of your car. The measure passed overwhelmingly anyhow.

Well sure. And other than asking why the machine was even on if they didn't want people using it, i kept my other thoughts to myself. I may have given her a confused look, which would be about as harsh as i got, so i hope i didn't stress her out anymore than she was.

Our now thoroughly-red Missouri has also passed “Amendment 3”, which delivers a tiny, tiny little slap on the hand of lobbyists, while allowing the Republicans to gerrymander to their heart’s content.
There was massive advertising against this bill, which apparently fell on deaf ears.

The description on the ballot was so deceptively written.

My wife received multiple mailers saying that right to repair would make it easier for people to stalk her. No such mailers for me.

75% yes, right to repair is winning handily. Huzzah all around.

Unfortunately ballot initiative 2, which would have implemented rank choice voting, seems to be failing.

- Florida's passed a 15 dollar an hour minimum wage, which is good.
- An amendment to change Florida from a Closed Primary to Open Primary state failed to pass, which I was rather ambivalent on.
- An incredibly stupid amendment that would make it so all future amendments had approved two election in a row failed to pass.

Fair enough. You're sentence structure had a lot to be desired. Maybe it was a typo.

Probably a reference.
