Sounds like only Japan will be ready for the Toilet-paper-crisis: their loos have built in bidet and blow-dry function.

Nope, practically all of the non-western world is already ready.
They don’t waste paper on cleaning, they use it for drying.
Most westerners just don’t have a clue that the paper dropped in bins by toilets elsewhere is (should be) clean.

ETA : I will admit to a degree of prepper food shopping today. But that is really just topping up my usual “storm season” pantry anyway

Is it safer to spray that stuff everywhere? I was listing to this week in virology and it didn't sound like it, but I may not be understanding it correctly

South Korea has recorded its largest rise in coronavirus infections in a single day, with 594 new cases confirmed on Friday.

The increase brings the total number of infections in South Korea to 2,931, according to the Korea Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

Seventeen people have died in the country so far.

South Korea has the highest number of confirmed cases outside China where the outbreak started.

Separately, there has been concern over a number of new cases of unknown origin in the US states of California and Oregon.

[snipped my actual reaction to this so the posts don't end up in AAH. You can guess what it was from this BS:]

ELISA is a screening test. Do you have evidence that is what China is using?

And if you think they did an antibody assay, prove the test is even available. In the US only the test being used is PCR. And I don't think many people care if one prefaces PCR with rt in this forum.

England only has 15 beds for worst respiratory cases
NHS says system will struggle if more than 28 patients need artificial lung treatment.

England only has 15 available beds for adults to treat the most severe respiratory failure and will struggle to cope if there are more than 28 patients who need them if the number of coronavirus cases rises, according to the government and NHS documents.

Ministers have revealed in parliamentary answers that there are 15 available beds for adult extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) treatment at five centres across England. The government said this could be increased in an emergency. There were 30 such beds in total available during the 2018-19 winter flu season.

South Korea now has more cases per capita than China.

Active cases continues to fall.

Abe's made a press conference earlier today to say that the school closures are hard, but they must be done, there will possibly be some compensation, please, please understand, we will give some more information in another ten days. Or so.

Meanwhile there is anger about the steps not being explained properly and the lack of testing.

I think Abe is worried that this virus has already exploded in terms of numbers...

USA has now four cases of unknown origin, up from two yesterday. The first two were California and now we have Oregon and Washington. So it is loose in the wild on the West Coast. One case is a high school boy so maybe there are infected classmates.

I wonder how many suspicious cases are still just waiting for tests to come back at this point. One is quarentined at a hospital close to me. Going to get some shopping done today before people go nuts if it comes back positive.

A high school student in the US with no travel history is one of two new "presumptive positive" cases in Washington State

The student planned to go to school on Friday morning, but was notified of his test results and returned home before attending any classes.

This was his plan after visiting two different clinics.

Chew on that...

France bans large indoors gatherings in bid to curb virus

France has banned all indoor gatherings of more than 5,000 people, as part of efforts to contain the country's coronavirus outbreak.

Measures announced after an emergency cabinet meeting also include the cancellation of the Paris half-marathon which was to be held on Sunday.

In the worst-hit area, north of Paris, all public gatherings have been banned.
