2018 mid-term election

It will be interesting to watch but sad if yet another GOP controlled legislature thwarts true democratic votes.

Won't be a surprise though.

Depends - it was a 60% to pass measure, so I suppose it could bypass the legislature and just be automatic. In that case, the people reenfranchised are a done deal, and the legislature would have to put up a new law to disenfranchise future ex-felons.

That was after they cranked down the vacillation, and it held steady for an hour or so. It had swung as low as 37% at one point.

Again, it was working on early results especially with rural counties reporting earlier on average.

In terms of gubernatorial election shenanigans, Kobach lost, but Kemp is leading.

From August:
Trump's Kobach endorsement could cost the GOP a governor's race in red Kansas (Harry Enten, formerly of 538)

Oddly enough, Democrats are welcoming this news and hoping Kobach defeats current Republican Gov. Jeff Colyer in Tuesday's primary. Polls give Kobach a slight edge.
Why would Democrats be rooting for Kobach? He's uniquely positioned to allow a Democrat to win the general election in November.General election polling has been limited in the Sunflower state. The one poll that has been published, however, shows Kobach down by a point to potential Democratic nominee Laura Kelly. (Colyer was ahead of her by 10 points in the same poll.)
The idea Kobach is in trouble in a general election is backed up by other data-points. Kobach is one of the least popular politicians in Kansas. A spring 2018 poll from Fort Hays State University, which only used live interviewers, found that Kobach had a net favorability rating of -17 percentage points. Colyer, on the other hand, broke far closer to an even score. Indeed, no one else in the poll besides Kobach was anywhere close to such a negative score. It's important to note that Kansas is a very Republican state on the federal level. It voted for Trump by over 20 points. It last elected a Democrat to the Senate in 1932.

So, Thanks Trump for the assist! :D

GOP suppressing votes and cheating at the election has minimized the damage of the Blue Wave, but I'm glad that the people overcame all that cheating to take the House and a few Governor races.

Coward Joe Donnelly turned around and slapped the Democratic Party in the face in one of his recent ads.

Turns out people tend to vote for the Republican over the Republican-lite.

Same thing happened in Missouri and Tennessee. Democrat runs as Republican light to try and show themselves to be "moderate" and win right wing voters, end up getting soundly rejected.

But unapologetic Democrats run in Texas and Georgia and damn near win. Gillum not only almost won the Florida governorship, but he re-energized Nelson's campaign.

Without the purges and voter suppression, I'm sure Gillum and Beto would have won.

I think Florida polling fell into the Bradley effect. Gillum was consistently ahead of DeSantis in polls and wound up running behind Nelson.

Grrr, I think Scott Walker is going to win WI again. Mostly rural counties (including mine) yet to report and it's a dead heat.

Gillum definitely. The fact that Beto's loss is going to be almost within the margin of error is a damn miracle. Stacey Abrams coming within 8% despite the same dirty tricks is huge as well.

I wonder if a few thousand uncounted votes will appear in the last minutes for Walker like the last time. Freaking cheaters.

Colorado passed intiatives taking redistricting out of the hands of the legislature and giving to a independent commission..pretty much what Califorinia did.
This might be a trend. Redistricting is too important to leave to the politicians. And although the GOP has been the greater offenders, that is because they have controlled more legislatures. The Dems are just a capable of gerrymandering. I don't trust either party on this.

For final notes, according to CNN:

Trump lost suburban and independent voters that he won in 2016.

The Republican Party is now even more beholden to Trump, as moderates who distanced themselves lost and people he backed won.

In terms of popular vote the House gap is larger than the Tea Party one, but due to gerrymandering in actual seats the change is less.

Republicans maintaining the big gubernatorial races means they can continue their gerrymandering advantage.
