2012 Debates

Of course Obama appeared confused. He had prepared to debate Romney on the positions Romney held Tuesday.

The last several months of Romney saying strange and inconsistent things was all leading up to this moment! Throw off Obama in the debates by not being the same crazy person everyone has seen so far. Romney's team is playing the long game.

After all is said and done, there is only ONE thing people will remember about last night.

I'm not willing to give Obama a pass for letting Romney get away with such dissembling.

Maybe if his supporters and media enablers weren't such sycophants and Yes Men Obama would be used to a grilling. You get what you deserve.

Has anybody checked the Etch-a-sketch?

You could be right. At least we don't have to put up with a slimy demonstrable liar who has no principles. Romney, a guy who as proven shamelessly that he will do and say anything to get elected. At least the left hasn't completely sold out to religious right wing. Those of you that stand silently by while the religious right actively work to strip the rights of women, voting rights and who want to replace science with mythology deserve Romney but god knows the rest of us don't. I don't think any of us sinned that badly.

It was a disappointing performance by Obama, but like Unabogie, I'm thinking this is not the last we'll hear of what was said here. When the Obama ads start coming out showing how Mitt flip-flopped, it may turn out to be to the advantage of the Democrats.

I have it on good authority (I know people) that this is exactly what is going to happen. Romney's contradictions and half-truths in last night's debate are going to come back to bite him, hard.

While President Obama didn't provide a stellar performance, he held his own and Romney, in his desire to be aggressive, swung big... and in the process opened himself up to a lot of nasty counter attacks :)

I heard the new Obama ad is running footage of Romney saying he has no plans. GOP staffers must have been cringing when Romney let that one loose.

It would be a smart move to exploit that. That would be a nice ju-jitsu move.:)

I wouldn't say it's a boot he has up there.

You're right. Romney put both feet up Obama's ass yesterday. He's going to need surgery to get them removed.

Not a good day to be an Obama sycophant is it?

I also find it humorous that so many Romney supporters here are crowing about last night's debate, because - as I stated earlier - any gains he made in the prediction markets last night are quickly fading. At both IEM and Intrade, the WTA numbers are easily back to within a percent or two of what they were right before the debate, with President Obama's numbers on the rise and Romney's dropping.

So all this gloating is just bluster, all form and no substance.

My advice to Democrats/liberals: quit whining. The data are clear that this debate won't have any appreciable effect. By wringing your hands and kvetching, you are simply making yourselves victims for the psychological warfare the right-wing is using now. Better to use your energy by phone banking or canvassing or registering voters and working on GOTV efforts.

My advice to Republicans/conservatives: take care how much you gloat, especially when the data are against you. You're going to feel awfully stupid having to wipe all that egg of your faces.

Yup, the moment I heard about that I knew it was fodder for a campaign ad. The mistake so many here are making is the assumption that these debates occur in a vacuum... they don't.

So smugly telling lies is the same as kicking ass?!
