Lawmaker asks McCain to talk with 9/11 theorists

An Arizona state senator is petitioning presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain to meet with 9/11 conspiracy theorists, including an adjunct professor from Scottsdale who has been fasting outside McCain's Phoenix office for more than a week.

State Sen. Karen Johnson, a Mesa Republican, delivered a letter to McCain's Senate office Tuesday asking that he sit down with Scottsdale activist Blair Gadsby and a pair of leading members of the 9/11 Truth Movement to consider alternative explanations for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and the collapse of the World Trade Center towers. Gadsby's fast outside McCain's Senate office entered its 10th day today.

Gadsby said he'll maintain his office vigil until McCain pledges to sit down with him, Richard Gage, founder of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, and Steven Jones, a physicist who claims to have done laboratory analysis and found evidence of explosives in the WTC rubble. Their conditions: a pledge of two hours with McCain, plus national media coverage.

I wonder what they intend to argue if given 2 hours of the Senator's time. Would Gage make the Senator sit through his 500-plus slide presentation? Could he get throught the entire presentation in 2 hours? What would Jones argue? Would they even bother with the Pentagon or Flt 93?

Interesting questions.

you got to give him credit for trying. It an oft quoted and all too deserved swipe at the Truthers here that they do nothing but troll on the internet. At least this guy has the balls to do something and do it with some effort.

but he only has to give it a moments thought to realise he's pissing into the wind. If McCain takes the meeting he'll have ten hunger strikers camped out on his doorstep the very next morning.

Just as Democracy hates to publicly negotiate with terrorists politicians are going to have their arm twisted by anybody not eating.

That right there guarantees that the meeting will not happen. It's tantamount to stating outright, "We demand to meet with you, and to attempt to embarrass you in the national press and damage your campaign."

Even if they were willing to drop that condition in negotiation, it's too late. They've already made it clear that that's what they want to try to do. Which would make actually having the meeting a mistake that no major party's presidential nominee's campaign staff could ever afford to make.

(Next time -- in about four years -- try this instead: "As million dollar contributors to your campaign, we'd like two hours of your time to discuss an issue of importance to us. We guarantee to exercise the utmost discretion to avoid any publicity about the meeting.")

Unless they're on their side, like Karen Johnson... or they secretly might be and someone they trust/obey says they're clean, like Ron Paul. They usually stick to blaming it on the "neocons", but they don't know who to focus on and everyone who doesn't buy in becomes a neocon.
