Every year in medical school, out of a class of about 100, there would be 2-3 people who would turn out to be complete whacko nuts on certain issues (scary isn't it). I am sure the same is true for Engineers.

He has responded and it seems he is certainly responsible for that comment.
He is being a bit evasive at the moment, I have invited him here and mentioned that he might like to discuss this with a fellow Scot who is also interested in this field.
Lets wait and see.

Well, I would be interested to hear what he says.

It's not so much that I'm a fellow Scot as that I'm a fellow construction industry professional with experience in tall buildings work, and hence would be more than happy to engage in a one-on-one thread exploring his views and the analysis that led him to conclude same.

It really hurts to see people who should have the education and experience fall right into a trap that could be easily avoided with a little research/critical thought. Their claims are so ludicrous, there's no reason to point out that they are structural engineers - any idiot could make the same ones (and many have).

I'm going to point out that (a) there are 5 million of us here, so we don't all know each other, and (b) that I work in quite a specialist field - obviously - so I wouldn't tend to come across the engineering equivalent of a GP. But that in itself would tend to suggest that he doesn't do tall structures.

Does he claim to be a member of ICE or IStructE?

One of the problems I see when these cons (Gage, Jones, etc) debate experts is that the experts won't discuss anything outside of their field of expertise. They will simply say "I can't discuss demolition, I am an engineer", or "I can't discuss the engineering, I am an architect". And that makes sense. However guys like Gage have no problem making vast claims that are well outside of their field of expertise without concern for them being wrong.

Also, the wild speculations and rapid fire accusations, even if they are fallacies, are far more interesting than dry, scientific and statistical facts.

They can just yell out their insane ramblings that are either out of the expert's field of knowledge, or are so wrong, the expert simply can't answer them with a few lines. Then, the lunatic gets to run back his buddies yelling ,"SEE, HE CAN'T ANSWE THE QUESTION!!! I PWNED HIM!"

Gage couldn't even give a logical answer to a question that I put to him on a Toronto radio show so I can imagine what a fellow architect would do to him.
