The boil opened and then I started using iodine.
Anyone else have...

Under its Red Tape Challenge, the UK Government is asking for views on the current statutory regulation of homeopathic and herbal products.
The Nightingale Collaboration will be responding to the Red Tape Challenge and would appreciate the views of its supporters. Please help it by completing...
According to wikipedia, Echinacea has anti-inflammatory properties, and a recent Cracked article talked about how St. John's Wort has chemicals in it that are good for mild to moderate depression. It cited a paper showing that levels of the chemical in the herbs you buy at the store range from...
About five years ago, a childhood friend was seriously injured in a freak accident. She worked as a bookkeeper for a grocery store chain and a TV stand attached to the ceiling directly above her desk partially collapsed. The TV fell on her head, breaking a couple vertebrae. She has had a couple...
I just noticed this on the BBC News web site:

I think Novella was great on TV, but Oz didn't give him enough room to reply properly. Steve has offered Oz a public forum for unedited discussion through SBM or SGU, I doubt Oz is going to bite. Anyways, I'd definitely like to see more of Steve on TV, well...
Can't really be sure from the article if the comfrey tea was the cause but it highlights the need for some regulation in the herbal industry.
Times newspaper article
Does anyone know about this new EU directive?
My mother, bless her, has recently been suggesting I try extract of African Potato Tuber (Hypoxis Hemerocallidea, sold under the trade name Simba), to help with various medical problems I've had (including eczema and what is currently being described as chronic fatigue syndrome), and I was...
At present, there is no statutory regulation of practitioners who offer acupuncture, herbal medicine and traditional Chinese medicine in the UK. This Department of Health (DoH) consultation will seek views on whether a UK-wide regulatory system should be established to govern the practice of...
I am happy with my local paper today! In a relatively long article, it discusses how pregnant women make frequent use of alternative medicine, specifically herbal remedies and other natural stuff such as raspberry leaves. It cites a study stating that these remedies have no effect, and even...
The Guardian's "Ethical Living Blog" has a "you ask, they answer" series. This week it features Neal's Yard Remedies. They have quite a lot of questions, including quite a few questioning the ethics of selling medicines without evidence that they work, but for some reason, although they...

Hi
A good friend of mine suffers from terrible bouts of gout. He's considering getting on this herbal remedy - http://www.goutcure.com/. All the reviews I have found on Google etc seem fairly positive. Any doctors or medical folks on the board have any thoughts on this one? Mostly, I want to...
We recently took on a rescue Bernese Mountain Dog and one of the requirements was for a home check to ensure we were suitable owners. The very pleasant lady who checked us out also sold flower remedies for treating certain problems that some rescue dogs, depending on their background, may suffer...

From the BBC
Somewhat like the homeopathy expose recently with malaria. I wonder if the health shops discussed gingko as "blocking the holes" in someone's energy.
Virtually all of the supporters of herbal medicine that I meet argue tha herbal medicine is valid because conventional medicine is based on plant derived medicines.
Is this really the case? I can think of a few plant based medicines such as penicilin and quinine, but aren't the vast majority of...
What are some plants that one can eat that really do produce some chemical that numbs pain, helps with sickness etc. Basically what herbal stuff isn't woo woo?
One of the problems about working from home is that it gives you plenty of time to listen to the radio. This morning on the BBC Radio 5 station there was an interview with Dr. Rosy Daniel who claims to have a herbal cure for cancer (which appraently corrects the body's pH). Dr Daniel used to be...
Can someone please tell me if there are any herbal remedies that actually help anything at all?
