Our company is having a "health fair" today. There will be several booths set up with info on all sorts of topics; exercise, diabetes, heart attack, breast cancer, etc. Including accupuncture!
It's my understanding that there have been no studies that show...
Ugh, had to visit the college health centre today so I could be examined before an exam - I had the most fortunate good luck to decide to have a particularly nasty throat inflammation before my first exam.
Whilst filling out forms and such, previous history and the like, I noticed there was a...
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this. I just ran across an article on cnn.com that's from health.com and, I think, is mostly an advert for Health Magazine (health.com).

so i tagged along with the fiancee when she visited her doctor today. on the front desk, we both noted a sign announcing that the medical group now offers acupuncture!

…so says Wallace Sampson (clinical professor emeritus of medicine at Stanford University and editor in chief of the Scientific Review of Alternative Medicine) in today’s San Francisco Chronicle.
For any JREF readers living in San Francisco, Wallace Sampson will be holding forth on acupuncture...
This article took up the entire front page of our local suburban newspaper.
I intend to write a letter. I encourage you to do the same.

For those interested, the late Bob Imrie’s PowerPoint presentation on acupuncture is now available online:

It’s a 139 slide download, so some of the photographs and illustrations take time to appear in their frames.
I was wondering if anyone on the forum had had any success with acupuncture? I am a skeptic, but my back has been going out every 6 months or so and several people at work say they have had good success with acupuncture.
I understand the psychology of people who may go in believing that...

Of more interest to me, were the comments after the article.
Below are excerpts of a recent email exchange I've had with a very good friend of mine, "Laggek", who supports acupuncture and regularly receives acupuncture treatment.
I'm throwing this in the group, so to speak, hoping that some of you will provide interesting feedback/criticism/information...

I think it (they) have reached the wrong conclusion.
In my opinion it’s saying that acupuncture works no better than a placebo
At the suggestion of the school’s special needs teacher, a secondary school in Somerset has offered acupuncture to eight children who were stressed about exams or suffering from ADHD. The Headteacher said “….we think there are signs they are calming down, and they certainly say they feel...
We want to find the facts and locate the fictions in acupuncture.
Facts are independent of man's mind, fictions are in the mind of man and enacted outside.
Why bother to find the facts and the fictions in acupuncture? Perhaps in the process we will realize for a categorical certainty that it...
I'm seeing a physiotherapist for a knee injury. While he gave me a standard set of exercises and stretches to help rebuild the knee, he also mentioned that I might want to get acupuncture to help with minor pain and swelling.
My initial reaction was to respond that I'd prefer to stick with...
The BMJ has published a trial comparing sham acupuncture against a placebo pill to treat arm pain. I thought it might be interesting to readers of this forum, particularly in light of the recent debates about "wor Kathy's" series on sCAM.
The conclusion was that sham acupuncture was superior...
Dropped my wife and I's puppy off to be spayed this morning, and while I was filling out the paperwork I noticed some brochures on the counter for Veterinary Acupuncture. Any suggestions/ideas/experiences/etc for resources and the like to help convince my vet that it is woo and to not offer it...

from an email circulated around the company I work for:
Now, I'd obviously like to ask a few questions here, but what would be a few really killer questions to ask? Obviously, I'd like the appropriate killer answers to any guff this guy can come back at me with.
