It would be if they wanted to use it to pay down the debt. Reality is that we don't have any fiscally conservative politicians in the US and haven't since Bush the Elder.
 
Illegal workers dont pay taxes. If they did they risk getting nabbed by ICE. And the employer risks getting nabbed by the DOJ.

They are paid in CASH and dont report their income.

Actually, when I was a kid (and hadn't gotten a SS number yet), I paid sales tax on ALL the candies and school supplies I bought, or when I bought gas for my moped.

This of course was when you had to apply for a SSN and not just given one, like today.


ETA: hmmm... I don't ever remember having to ever show my SS card when buying gas, which BTW, includes a federal excise tax.

Some are for sure but lots work with stolen SSNs or TINs. Most businesses want at least plausible deniability when ICE visits. Saying they all work under table is as silly as saying none do.

But this as nothing to do with who the dems should run for the presidency. I think it should be a moderate governor of a medium sized purple or light red state.

Sure, Trump was scare mongering with illegal immigrants and trans atheletes but the Dems have staked out a lane on those issues that is favored by 20 to 30% of the electorate at most. With trans athletes, the 80% that think its unfair for biological males to win triple jump by 8 feet think you are crazy when you say they don't have any unfair advantage over biological females. It not just unpopular its a position that most people think indicates the dems are basically delusional on. Then you take say, Newsom, and he signed a bill that made it illegal for a teacher to tell a kid's parents that they've transitioned at school* and think he'd be an electable candidate outside of CA or NY?

*Actually, I've read a few articles on this, its unclear if it prevents schools and teachers from revealing gender transitions to parents or just bans school board from mandating that schools reveal gender transitions. Point still stands, the GOP can sell it as the first regardless, and most folks will think its crazy either way.

They show up at an employers office looking for a job, then give a fake SSN. The employer enters the fake SSN into the database and deducts Federal taxes from their paycheck to send to the Fed. The Fed takes the money and...

That's it really. Billions of dollars worth of Federal taxes are sent in each year this way. It works because the IRS has better things to do that go after people who send in more tax money than they need to. The undocumented worker cannot collect SSN based on this money sent in, although some on the left have pushed to make it so they can.

With the Trump ethnic cleansing operation quickly running out of "bad" immigrants to deport, they will probably start going after these people sooner, rather than later.
