This may come as a shock to some, but apparently Mike Pompeo based his foreign policy vis-a-vis Israel on the bible.

Trump’s secretary of state makes comments on podcast to defend former administration siding more openly with Israel
..
“[Israel] is not an occupying nation. As an evangelical Christian, I am convinced by my reading of the Bible that 3,000 years on now, in spite of the denial of so many, [this land] is the rightful homeland of the Jewish people,” he said.

Pompeo, who referred to the occupied West Bank by its Israeli name of Judea and Samaria, declined to support a two-state solution of an independent Palestine alongside Israel – an increasingly diminishing prospect after years of failed negotiations and the rise to power of politicians in Israel who advocate annexing the occupied territories.
..
As secretary of state he reversed a number of longstanding US policies, including overturning legal advice from 1978 that declared Israel’s settlements in the West Bank “inconsistent with international law”. Most western governments, such as the UK, say the settlements and Israel’s annexation of occupied East Jerusalem are a breach of the Geneva conventions and are therefore illegal.
The Guardian: Pompeo says Israel has biblical claim to Palestine and is ‘not an occupying nation’

The Guardian: Pompeo says Israel has biblical claim to Palestine and is ‘not an occupying nation’

Pompeo is an excellent example of the dangers of mixing religion and politics. Making political decisions based on a book/religion that most people in the world do not believe in is ludicrous. Christians make up only about 31% of the world's population.

Latest on the Georgia investigation. It's not over.

Georgia grand jury suspected perjury in probe of Trump election interference, report says

Some witnesses may have lied under oath during a grand jury probe of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia, according to excerpts from the panel’s findings released on Thursday.

Unlike a regular grand jury, the special grand jury was not empowered to issue indictments, only recommendations, and the decision on whether to press charges ultimately rests with Willis, the district attorney. If she decides prosecution is warranted, she would need to pursue indictments from a traditional grand jury.

I forgot what this has to do with Trump, new thread split etc.

So I'm just gonna go with Trump sucks.

Further to my last observation, I actually don't think Israel wants to actually revert to biblical Iudaea. Because, despite the claims made, that country was a small tribal grouping that existed up on the Jerusalem hills, a very small geographical area.

A little bit about the background of one of Trump's hell-spawn...

From: Business Insider
Donald Trump Jr. said that he lived off gas station sushi for a year after graduating college when his family financially cut him off. Trump made the revelation while speaking to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez having previously worked as a bartender and how they think that does not qualify her to make high level financial decisions.... "I was cut off, the only thing that they didn't cut off because they forgot was my gas card"...

So lets get this straight... Trump Jr. basically admits that he could not survive on his own without support from his family. Yet he thinks he can criticize AOC (A woman who came from much more humble beginnings, but also interned for a U.S. senator, worked for a non-profit, and started a publishing firm.)

Good god what a ridiculously long drawn out process. A grand jury to recommend... another grand jury. Thats all we've gotten to after TWO FRICKIN YEARS!?!

Trump will be wearing an ankle monitor to the White House next time he wins. He will be restricted to there and two golf courses of his.

So let me get this straight: He's a college graduate and still has to live off Daddy?

Trump [Jr.] was educated at Buckley School and The Hill School, a college preparatory boarding school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, followed by the University of Pennsylvania's (Penn) Wharton School, where he graduated in 2000 with a B.S. in Economics.

He's never done anything but live off Daddy. Well, except for, ironically, bartending:
After graduating from Penn in 2000, Trump moved to Aspen, Colorado, where he hunted, fished, skied, lived in a truck, and worked as a bartender for a year, before returning to join the Trump Organization in New York. Trump has supervised building projects, which included 40 Wall Street, Trump International Hotel and Tower, and Trump Park Avenue,[22] In 2006 he helped launch Trump Mortgage, which collapsed less than a year later.[17] In 2010, he became a spokesperson and "executive director of global branding" for Cambridge Who's Who, a vanity publisher against whom hundreds of complaints had already been filed with the Better Business Bureau.[17][23] He appeared as a guest adviser and judge on many episodes of his father's reality television show The Apprentice, from season 5 in 2006 to his father's last season in 2015.

OK, this sounds fairly bogus.

Aspen is renown for being so expensive to live in that "normal folks" can't afford it. Bartending there barely pays the rent on a damp cupboard at the back of a disused parking garage.

Work as a bartender anywhere will hardly pay for all that is required for hunting, fishing and skiing activities - guns and ammo, rods and equipment, skis and boots and ski-clothes...

And Junior lived in a truck? Where did he get a truck suitable for living in? Those are not cheap. And I suspect the good brethren of Aspen would not permit hobos dossing in trucks to clutter their landscape.

I suspect either his "gas card" was maxxed out every week and he just inhabited a bar, or it was all a "gap year" thing paid for on the family credit cards, or he is simply lying. I'm gonna go...that last option, please.

Not to mention how expensive skiing is there. Hunted and then what, donated the kill to a food bank? Did he have a fridge and stove in said truck?

He's a version of George Santos and Daddy.

I've found several sources that support that support his bartending/ ski bum claim. Take it for what it's worth.

And after all, he's his daddy's kid, so it would not be entirely out of character to live on name and expectation and stiff everyone on the way through.

Exactly. That was my thought...getting people to pay for his skiing, etc. hoping to get to Daddy.

The service people working in Aspen do not live in Aspen. Some people working there are also ski bums. Sleeping wherever and then using their small time off to ski themselves.

A couple of more Trump-related items in the news:

From: The Hill
A GOP political operative was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Friday for his involvement in transferring illegal campaign contributions from a Russian national to former President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. A Justice Department release states that Jesse Benton planned with another political adviser to send political contributions from the Russian national, who wanted to meet with and take a picture with Trump, to the campaign.

But still no reason to believe the Trump campaign had anything to do with Russia. Nope, nosiree.

(Benton has been a long time Republican hack, and had worked for Moscow Mitch and Rand Paul. He had been convicted of bribery way back in 2016, but Trump still had him work on his campaign, and even pardoned him for his earlier crimes.)

And Trump has laid out one of his education plans:

From: The Independent
Donald Trump has announced he will “end the leftist takeover of school discipline and juvenile justice” and allow the federal government to oversee discipline in schools if he is elected president next year.

So Republicans are all about "states rights", unless of course there is something they want to do/implement.

Having lived in Steamboat Springs for a year there is another option. Seven of us split the rent on a gorgeous house. But I can't imagine Donny Jr having 6 friends who could put up with his snobbery. Maybe a friend of Donny Sr let him sleep in a spare room.

Remember that time someone spilled the beans about Russian campaign money and Paul Ryan shushed him?

Explosive Tape Catches Paul Ryan And Kevin McCarthy Engaging In Trump/Russia Cover-Up
"There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” the Post reported McCarthy saying, noting “Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia." ...

The implications of this are far-reaching and pretty unnerving. It suggests that at the very least, top Republicans suspected Putin was paying Trump and they not only looked the other way, but continue to present the false idea to the public that there is no problem with Trump’s relationship with Russia. Instead of alerting anyone, Ryan urged them to keep it a secret.

Trump went on his merry way causing scandal after scandal until stuff like this simply faded into the woodwork. The GOP noted here are not the only ones that looked the other way. There were others also on the take. And the Democrats didn't push the story like they should have.

I think you linked to the wrong article  What you linked to is about Biden being old and sleepy etc.

Donald Trump has announced he will “end the leftist takeover of school discipline and juvenile justice” and allow the federal government to oversee discipline in schools if he is elected president next year.

So Republicans are all about "states rights", unless of course there is something they want to do/implement.

In 2018, Trump cancelled an Obama-era federal guideline on the discipline of students in K-12. This guideline was established when the "Government Accountability Office report[ed] that Black K-12 students receive punishments that are overly severe and frequent in schools across the country".
Following Parkland, the Trump administration faced massive protests from student activists calling for gun control measures. The administration established the Federal Commission on School Safety in response to the demands for action from across the country and appointed Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to chair it. But rather than grapple with students’ demands, the commission has pushed the false narrative that schools can be protected from mass shootings by rolling back civil rights protections for Black and brown students and students with disabilities.
The commission has placed blame on the school discipline guidance issued by the Departments of Justice and Education under the Obama administration in 2014 to address the nationwide problem of students of color receiving harsher punishments than their white peers for the same infractions. The commission claims that this guidance “endangers student safety,” despite the lack of any evidence linking civil rights protections for students of color to school shootings.
Rather than “overreaching,” as the administration claims, the school discipline guidance simply provides educators and students with clarification of long-standing civil rights laws and reminds schools of the need to avoid and repair discrimination in the application of school discipline. The guidance was developed in light of a substantial body of academic research detailing the disparate discipline of youth of color as well as the government’s own investigations, which included findings of “cases where African-American students were disciplined more harshly and more frequently because of their race than similarly situated white students.”

This is yet another example of Trump's racism and the systemic racism which the many GOP claim doesn't exist.

MSNBC has switched to mostly reading Trump statements with a picture of him or silent clip.

I know we are all tired of his voice and approve of it. Not sure if it is the channel's policy.

The man is all but saying if he gets back in the WHite House, he will rule as a dictator.

I'm sure that a significant minority of the US electorate are perfectly content with that on the grounds that they feel that the democratic process is failing then and that President Trump would make decisions they support.

They're absolutely wrong but they're also depressingly underinformed.

That's being amazingly generous. No one has to be 'underinformed' about Trump. It's there for anyone who wants to be informed.

All the talk about Donnie Jr living off daddy is missing the point. He's following in the proud Trump tradition of living off the success of the previous head of the family. The only real difference is that Fred Trump actually WAS successful.
